PROPANE INJECTION
Provided By - Madpiper
Cheap propane injection (not meter).
The materials
Start off by taking the tip off of the torch head, you will find out why later on.
Here we have a 1/4 in hose barb, ball valve, and close nipple threaded together and sealed with teflon tape.
Here I am attaching the 3/8 in.I.D. hose the the hose barb with a multi tip screwdriver. You dont need any tips to tighten a small hose tie though. The hose does not have to be pressure rated for this set up since it is simply a bridge from the tank to the chamber.
Screw on a 1/4in90 degree elbow to your close
Put another 1/4 in close on your elbow with lots of teflon tape. This end leads to your chamber.
Put a hose clamp on the hoseand put your torch head into the hose.
Tighten the hose clamp with your headless screwdriver.
Here it is, ready to be installed.
How to use:
1. Open your ball valve
2. Turn on your propane
3. Count to around 10 or so (depending on chamber size)
4. Close both valves at the same time
5. FIRE!
This system works just as well as an expensive propane meter but for nearly half the cost. If you like the look of a propane meter but are not sure if your wallet wants one this is the thing to make.

| thats pretty cool, I am going to make one of those for one of my older cannons i don't want to put a metered propane injection system on. |

| I just finished building your propane injection system and my cannon fires but it is really weak. My chamber is 4" SCH 40 and 18" in length. I tried counting to 30 seconds but the combustion is so weak it barely shoots out anything. I mean it does ignite but the combustion is real weak. |

| You might also try keeping the torch head on, and slipping a hose over it, then you'll have a correct mixture and you won't have to worry about timing. |

his firing instructions are not right, cuz, if the volume of the plastic pipe is 4% of your chamber's volume, then you should:
Close Ball Valve
Open Propane Torch Valve
Close Propane Torch Valve
Open Ball Valve
Close Ball Valve
Fire
Then it would work like a cheap meter... without a guage or regulator
Or else it is the same as spraying some propane in...
Am I right???
But it is simple and cheap |

| its just a simple means of putting propane in, like using aerosol, theres no metering, just fiddle around till you know how long to open the valve, its like how long do you spray deodorant in? |

| I have a small clear air pump that was designed to air up athletic equipment. It has about 6" of hose attached and a fittitng for tire valve or a needle for a basketball. It is about 10 or 12" in length, I bought it at Wal-Mart for 4 bucks.I outfitted a small propane tank with a length of hose and one of those metal tire valves at the other end. To use it I just leave the tank valve open when in use, simple connect the air pump to the tire valve and draw back the pump handle to fill it full or to a certain point . It actually works good with a full load. Then I inject it into the cannon via another metal type tire valve. So far it works well. Another trick of mine is to put a thin 1 ounce clear medicine cup through the chamber into the breech end of the barrel to plug it up and make it air tight ,this is after you load spud or you will pop it out. then I add fuel and sometimes a few lbs of air pressure . When fired the medicine cup comes out in a hundred pieces and the spud goes at least 200 more ft. these cups or so thin that some of them break just being tapped into place . I wouldn't use anything else as it might blow up the c annon. |

Im still a newb with propane but I have the simple ideas and what not pasted roughly together. But on the very end (not where the tank is) could you put something like the end peice on air hoses? And use a tire valve on the gun. Or would this not work right?
If that made no sense I understand and will rephrase, lol. |
