would it resonable to use a bicycle pump to fill up a 4" by 4' air chamber. Would it take too long?

It all depends on the pressure you're trying to take it to. 10psi might take just a minute but if you're going up to more common operating pressures (100psi) you may wish to invest in a compressor. They really do help. ALOT.

It all depends on what your time and energy is worth to you. My time and energy is very valuable to me so I invested in a scuba setup($250+/-) for total portability. Twisted Evil

Not practical. You'll get tired very fast.

You should invest in a air compressor. And I don't mean a 12v car one either. Something like a 5 gallon, 2hp air compressor will last you a life time. I've used my constantly for 2 years and my only regret is I didn't get a larger one.

You should be able to find one for about $80US, i'm not sure though. Best to get some American users to help you with that.

Ditto Crowley, not practical. Keep hand pumped stuff to rifle scale guns or smaller.

If you are looking to not spend much money, I'd even try to find a Harbor Freight Tools near you, they have decent stuff for low prices. My neighbors bought a drill press there that I use occasionally, and it has held up perfectly with proper care for a few years.

If you take care of it it will last you the same as a higher quality one. On that subject if you dont mind shelling out some more money, then I highly reccomend getting a higher quality one. I swear by Craftsman tools, and would highly reccomend that route.

If not that, then try Kobalt from lowes or Husky from home depot. Or any of the other brands they sell there.

Lets put it this way: I have a chamber on one of my guns that is 2' of 2" SCH-40, and it takes me about 30 seconds to fill to 100 psi. with my high velocity, high volume bike pump. I'm sorry, but filling your chamber with a bike pump would be suicide. You would be able to take one shot, and then rest for a while because you have to pump so much.

Bottom line: not at all practical.
