Here's a thought, with a big enough calibre, and small enough dog... |
You mean I should tie the antenna cable to a dog |

Or a twin barrel launcher, the dog could fetch the ball mid-flight |

@BigGrib
Thanks I just may take up the offer, obviously I would do it all via email.
I'll just check with my teacher to make sure an email is enough evidence and the markers don't think I made it all up.
How high is the conduit in the ceilings?
It'd be impractical for me to build a a launcher made out of 2" fittings to only launch a nerf 10' of the ground and over conduit.
Something between 15-20' is probably good enough.

They use these little guns right now that are spring loaded attached to fishing reels. My buddy Dave wants me get them built a bigger one to be able to got at least 20 ft. if not more. Basically they use it to shoot the darts with the fishing line up and over runs of conduit, then they attach a string to the dart, reel it back up,attach their nylon slick line then attach the cable or whatver to the slick line and pull that back through. It'd have to be able to launch a somewhat thicker string instead of fishing line (don't worry about the fishing line retrieval, it fails more often than not) so that they can eliminate a step if that makes any sense.
Instead of a nref dart, it's probably more likely have to be like a plastic tipped aluminum rod or something they could attach their slick line to directly and pull back through. Possibly if you could integrate some sort of reel or feed system that will pull the string from the gun so it uncoils nicely and that they can wind the line back onto as well.
Anyway I'll pm you with my buddies email address.

Hmm but maybe you should consider adding wings.
But as random shapes like dogs tend to tumble around midflight:
Put a weight inside the front of the dog and create a hollow-tail too for a better flight path.
Now how would we make a hollow tail dog? |

Well, you know how Carlman stuffed the tail end of a dart in a golfball...

I do have that asco valve in mind, I talked to Liki about it the other day and he said he's still willing to ship it to me, but he has some other stuff to do first.
Which I can wait for, i'm in no rush.
I know it's over kill for this assignment, but I want to use this cannon when the assignment's over, so i'll just tone down the pressure. |

Just to let you guys in on an update:
I get to build it very, very soon. It's a antenna launcher, but after the assignment is over i'll remove the extra bits.
The design isn't something I really wanted, but because this is costing me a lot I wanted it powerful, so it'll have a 2" barrel sealer.
Unfortuantely my teacher has forced me to make an ergonomic over power design, so i've had to make it look like i'm building an antenna launcher, not a golfball gun
Though he said I do get to use nylon for the piston which will be nice, self-lubricating, comes in a round stock, impact resistant, light, strong etc.
And o-ring grooves will be done on the lathe, i'm thinking 2 or 3. 2 for the back, one for the front.
I've also had to design, and soon build, a surrounding carrying unit for it. It'll be like half a rectangle box, with pegs and huge clips to hold the gun in place. Means I have less time to perfect the cannon, but oh well.
I have about 15-20 detailed drawings of the cannon and the box thingy, but i'll leave the design secret until it's finished. Nothing revolutionary though, just a standard 2" piston valve cannon with a few ergonomic features. |

Sounds cool MrC, I was thinking if you were strapped for time you could always throw something together from something you already have
(like the drain clog clearer you mentioned earlier in post).
Course that would be cheating so I mean only if you really had to.
Anyway, I always say, "If your not cheatin', you're not tryin'"
Well it'll be cool to see the finished antenna launcher.
I really enjoy professional application launchers. I was thinking it would be cool if we maybe had a seperate section for them. |

A high powered nailgun.
Just in case you ever fancy to nail boards together, from 12 meters away.
Just a thought... |

Except for the fact that they're already heavily commercialized and would be a b|tch to make. And the fact that i've already started. |
