Scorpion Class Multi-barrel Platform
Type of Cannon- Pneumatic
Chamber Size- 3" by 2 1/2' tanks x 4
Barrel Size-
"Long Tom" Barrel is 254cm / 3.81cm ID
"Devastator" Barrel is 203cm / 5.08cm ID
Pneumatic
--Gas Source - Compressed Air
--Valve - Side selectable shut-offs with a 1" Sprinkler Trigger
--Other Special Details
- Designed to fire one side of air tanks at a time.
- Breech loaded - Bolt action (Air through bolt design)
- Nicknamed "Scorpion Class" in part to the framework the airtanks screw into
- Servicable! All airtanks unscrew incase need for replacement, Triggervalve 100% removeable / Replaceable. Very modular cannon.
This is my first pneumatic. I originally set out to built a base defence paintball cannon. I wanted the operation to be simple + quick, and allow for more than one shot before the tanks would need to be recharged. I designed a 4 tank platform, with shut off valves allowing for a 2 tank-per-shot discharge. The trigger is a pneumatically modified 1" Sprinkler Valve.
The barrel system is interchangeable. The first barrel made is a more complicated, bolt-action, breech loaded system for quick round replacement. This design was intended for use during paintball. I equiped this barrel with a ghost ring style aperture sight, and loaded into this a 40 round paintball Sabot. The results were more than adequate. This barrel is roughly 80 inches long with a 2 inch ID. I have fired selfmade slugs through the barrel and achieved roughly 250yard shot. However the paintballs will never go this distance.
The second barrel is nicknamed "Long Tom". This is a more traditional "Spud" barrel. I made this one for firing distance rounds. I have yet to test this as I need more land to fire it on. The barrel has a smaller ID of 1.5inch and the length increased to 100inches to offset the one trigger valve system.
I decided to only use one sprinkler valve as I was not trying to make an extremely powerful cannon. Remember the intended use is for paintball, which means people will be on the recieving end. I must say the power results from a single 1" sprinker valve is above what I would need. The Long Tom barrel is for recreational distance launches, and to help with the valve bottleneck I have increased barrel length, while reducing ID to keep within the volume. I still keep to the 2 tank discharge, Not sure all 4 would really make a difference. Maybe when I have more land I can fully test fire this barrel.
My paint scheme is military inspired, simply put. And there was a degree of attention to detail for aesthetics.
Also I am aware of my use of DWV street elbows for the transition from trigger to barrel. I feel the curved design gives an easier pressure transfer and adds a better aesthetic quality. This piece is not designed to hold pressure, it more or less directs it. If it should ever fail it can be replaced as it is a removeable piece.
ANY comments / Suggestions are welcome, this is my first pneumatic and the results are more than what I need. I realize there are much more powerful cannons out there, But I have no need or place to fire those!
Here is a shotty video taken from someone present during test fire

We are working on putting together a more complete, better quality video.

| I don't know why I love it, but I really do! The combination of the paintjob, low profile, and all-around badass looking make this one helluva cannon! AWESOME!

Great job!, you should dye those nylon straps black though. I love the barrel shroud on the devestator. How much does it whiegh?
What are you going to mount it on when you shoot?

All i can say is "WOW"
That is really nice. About how much did it cost to make, in materials.

Hey all I'm glad you like it! Alot of thought was put into this. Yes I have considered a rifled barrel, might be something I'll add in the future, thats the beauty of this cannon it's very versitile. The cost is hard to estimate because there was a degree of trial and error, But I'm pretty sure its upwards of $200+ give or take, this includes paint and everything.
The weight of the cannon is decieving, It can be carried rather easily. The shroud on the devastator does add some front weight but drilling out those holes relieved quite a bit of it.
I can say when the cannon is fired it kicks the whole thing back a bit. Were working on the plans for a mounting system using a custom made collapseable, swiveling tripod. The "Quick Mount" system that will be on the framework is under develoupment. I'll keep you all updated
Isn't R&D so much fun when you have cannons?

| haha, nice job man. my first cannon was made out of pringles cans. the cannon im trying to finish this week is pretty similar to your design, except that im using two 1" sprinkler valves and a tenis ball barrel. hmmm.... how powerful is yurs by the way? im just wondering if two valves will be too much with a 10' 3" chamber.
