Been a while since I posted something of my own. So here is the "Fun Gun" as I promised you in This thread. It's a bit like Woffer's BFG 9000. His gun was what first sparked my interest in the use of commercial sprinkler valves for spud guns. That eventually led me to 3, 2" Irritrol valves, each very cheap and very effective.

The specs using CannonCreator's sheet:

Cannon Name: "Shock and Awe" (originally dubbed "Fun Gun 1")
Main Construction Material: PVC
Valve Type: Modified 2" Irritrol Sprinkler
Valve Pilot: 3/8" ball valve (possible upgrades in the future)
Chamber Length: 3 feet of 3" sch40 PVC (+ fittings)
Chamber Parts: 3" end cap-> 3"x2" bored out reducing tee + support pipe (barrel support)-> 3" coupling-> 3"x2" SxS bushing -> 2" pipe nipple-> 2" threaded street elbow
Barrel Length: 4 feet of 2.5" sch40 PVC
Barrel Parts: 2.5" coupling-> 2.5"x2" threaded reducing male fitting.
Fill Method: Brass Schrader with 1/8" NPT threaded into chamber.
Guage: Ashcroft micro gauge threaded into chamber.
Gas Type: Compressed air or propane, up to 80 psi.

Some videos using tennis balls as ammo:

Shooting cardboard (nothing special)

Shooting plywood (that's better!)

Take note of my Grandfather talking at the end. Before I shot it he said the ball would just bounce off!

Because of where I live, shooting this thing safely is very difficult. I got it down to a rough science though. At 40 psi and holding the gun at a steep angle (never measured but definitely greater than 45 degrees) I can land tennis balls in my neighbor's tennis court every time. I checked on Google Earth and it's about 300 feet. I'm positive this thing could crank out a tennis ball well beyond 500 feet.

More pics and vids later. As of yet I've only been shooting tennis balls. Soon I'll fill some with concrete and record the carnage. Right now I'm having trouble with my camera, so these videos will have to do for now. Trust me, they DON'T do this thing justice at all. You don't hear the loud report or see the recoil. I still need to get some new hose clamps to replace the temporary rope bracing.

Enjoy...

Nice but your camera sucks Very Happy . What psi were those shots at? It looks like you can really get more power out of this gun than you do have in these videos.

The plywood shot was at 60 psi. But again, this doesn't do it justice.

If only you could see the chainlink fence behind the board!

I am pretty sure that is the cleanest gun I have ever seen. Did you like buff and wax the pvc? It's so shiny and white! But good job looks pretty powerful and fun.

Nice cannon, very very clean. I like the barrel support. Can you pm me with the site where you got the valve?

battlemonkey you can get clear primer off bcarms. The link is on the home page of this site. It really makes all your cannons look so much better.

Why don't you go to 120psi? Sch40 3" is rated to 260psi anyways...
