I am having problems with the gearing and the speed I am getting out of my minibike. What is the smallest sprocket I can get. links to the website where they are available would be of huge help. right now ,I have a 72 tooth sprocket on there.Does anyone know where I can get a sprocket with between 30 and 45 teeth (or anywhere in the 30-40 tooth range) .Thank you so much for your help Very Happy the bolt pattern has 4 bolts, about 3 inches apart . the sise of the center does not matter at the moment. It can be enlarged on a lathe or mill . anyway, help and links to the websites would be greatly appreciated.

oh and i dont know about you, but i wouldn't go faster than the neibourhood speed limit, i planned mine to be 30 kph and the limit is 40 kph, so i use 12 teeth on the input, and 60 on the output

A smaller sproket on the axle will give you more take off power but the engine will wind out fast and your top speed will be slower, a bigger sproket on the axle will give you a slower take off but a slower wind out and a fast over all speed. T hats wht on motorcycles if you go smaller on the axle you go bigger on the engine and vice versa, you will still get the speed change but the effect on the engine will not be as severe. Do you know what i'm trying to say?

Andrew52, think about it like this, it takes longer to turn a bigger sproket all the way around then it does a smaller one, there for, at top engine speed the bigger sproket will be makeing more revolitions, there for more top speed.
