Hi, found this on a Danish airgun forum and thought of you guys Wink
It's a program that allow you to use your computer as a chrono. You place your computer excactly between your target and your muzzle, start the program, and fire. The program calculates your projectile speed at the muzzle from the sound. i havent personally tried this yet, but i have of several peple that have had good experience with this.
Enjoy Very Happy

I'm not sure how long your barrel is, but I can say that those numbers are probably not correct. Either you have a setting wrong or the program is picking up an echo.

I don't know how well a paintball would fare if it broke Mach 1, but I'm pretty sure that at low pressures with a gun small enough to hold you won't be breaking the speed of sound with a 5 gram projectile.

I use 320 psi, 4' of barrel, and still I can't put a paintball past the sound barrier with HEAL - though not for lack of trying.
Maybe if I keep persisting, I'll get a fluke sonic boom.

I too would be interested to see how a 100 psi cannon has me beat by nearly 200 fps. Was the target-muzzle distance set correctly?

P.S: Yay! 19 years of age! wav w00t! Well, at least on GMT. But as I was born in the UK, I don't think I need to be using US time for determining my age, do you?

Hey this program is great, i just used it, placed my laptop in the middle, pumped my gun up to 20psi (not alot i was in my room) and shot a nerf dart, and it says it shot at around 900fps or something, is that right??? i got a video of me doing it, so you can check it out, just need to upload it, and also ill get some more.

Cheers thursto

At 20 psi? - not a chance, it's physically impossible to go that fast at 20 psi because of back pressure forming ahead of the projectile.

Did you set the target - muzzle distance? It'll just give you garbage (as per GIGO - garbage in, Garbage out) if you don't.

Muzzle to target distance, it's one of the options on the settings menu. It's set default to 40 yards, so if you're only firing over 12 feet or so, then the numbers will be a factor of 10 too big.

Ok, again for people who don't want to use their initiative - setting button, then top of the left hand column of inputs on the bit that pops out is the target distance.

You can also mess with the other settings to get kinetic energy, correct for drag, etc, etc. I'd also suggest turning the maximum velocity setting down to a more likely number so that it can discard possible results that are too high to be correct. Setting the volumes for impact and muzzle would also help, but that's probably going into the realms of an over complication- still, if you can work it out and set it, it'll work better.

The software might be good, but if you're not prepared to give it the right information to work with, it's useless.
