Hello all. Just had a quick n00b question regarding spark strips. Would they be as effective connected to a BBQ Ignitor or do you need a stun gun to get the best out of this type of ignition? I assume that it won't make a difference, but I just wanted to ask the experts before I continued. Cheers

I think that the BBQ igniter will work OK (as long as its a clicky one, not the twisty nob kind) but the spark wont be huge and could/will fail after 100 or so shots. But I'd opt for the stungun as the sparks will be big and consistant.

It will work using a BBQ sparker but you only have enough power to have a couple spark gaps. If your a minor you cant buy a stun gun but if you can it would be highly suggested because the results are a lot better with a stun gun. I spent 12$ on a BBQ sparker and then I recently bought a stungun of Ebay for 8$ and then 10$ for shipping so it was only 6$ more. If its your first gun I would start off with a latern sparker or a BBQ one. With a stungun you are able to light denser fuel mixetures then with a BBQ sparker.

Ok, thanks for the advice. Fortunately for me I am almost 19 Smile and live in Canada where 18 is legal. So I will probably get a stun gun off of eBay because I was going to run the circuit through a "missile" toggle switch as a safety... also cause it would look pretty cool. And I love Vochraye's VisaFire so I plan on doing a variation on that as well and with all of that in mind, not to mention wanting at least 3-4 gaps on my spark strip... BBQ would probably be too weak. Am I correct in saying this or are there any other thoughts? Thanks

heh that's funny. Great minds think alike Smile Ya, that's pretty much how I envisioned mine, but with VisaFire which is pretty much an external spark mounted on top of the cannon to verify that the circuit (and therefore the spark inside the chamber) is in fact working. This is another safety feature but in my opinion also looks very sweet!
