Should I add my huge 'Identifying Pressure Rated PVC' information?

what does a bell reducer look like? and how can some people on here tell if certain parts are dwv, especially if its all ready painted over?

This is a bell reducer:

If a part is DWV, it should only say DWV and maybe Sch 40 on the fitting/pipe.

On fittings the writing is usually raised and can be read once painted over, with pipe, if you have enough layers of paint you probably can't read it.

Don't Worry about identifying DWV pipe and fittings, more pressure rated fittings.

To find out if a fitting is pressure rated, it should have 'NSF-PW' and it may also have Sch 40 (or 80,120 etc) on it. IIRC American fittings don't have a pressure rating on them, but if they have NSF-PW, you're okay, it will be rated.

For pipe, it should have 'NSF-PW Sch 40 (or 80,120, etc) XXXPSI @73F'

XXXPSI, is the pressure rating, it changes depending on the Schedule rating and the diameter of the pipe. The pipe may have a different temperature rating, but the most common say '@73F'.

The pipe may also have 'DWV" written on it, as long as the pipe has a pressure rating, e.g '300PSI @73F' you're okay.

If it doesn't have 'NSF-PW' or pressure rating, chances are it's DWV.

Edit:

This is a PRESSURE RATED PVC 90* bend:

This is a DWV PVC 90* bend, non-pressure rated:

As you can see, the difference is very obvious.

You can get fittings that look DWV, but I doubt you will find them at Home Depot or Lowes, usually they're only found online.

Is there a thread or something somewhere that will show me what all these different parts look like?

Not really.

I'll list a few pressure rated fittings in pictures:

That's really all the important information about identifying American Pressure rated pipe.

I'll try and find a good section for it, if not i'll create my own.

That sounds a slightly optimistic plan, but equally, it's a good aim to go for.
Still, we shouldn't ignore the very good resources on other sites, often a link is better than trying to re-write it.

@MrC: Definitely, it probably needs it's own section. And it would be good if a link were to go in the PVC and safety sections...

@MrC: Ooh, hadn't thought of that, I'll assimilate some of it into the wiki tomorrow, but I need sleep first.

I've just got a download to finish, then I'm off to bed.

Okay just finished, feel free to change or add information, or Rag if you feel like the need to clean it up to make it look better, go right ahead.

If there are any Americans who could lend a hand with the "identifying PVC by the AS number', which is the number found on the pipe or fitting.
I think markfh11q knows what they all mean.

I will handle the Aus/NZ AS/NZS number, which I remember a website explaining what the numbers meant.

I've corrected a couple of small spelling errors, but so far, I've left it alone. I may look again later and expand on it, but it looks good to me.

One thing I noticed on the wiki was that a lot of the links at the bottom of pages take the Common Fuels for Combustion Spudguns page for example, some of these links at the bottom going to chamber fans and meters and such should be linked back to the Wiki, not to burntlatke of sluka spudzooka thing. I agree the more information that we can get our hands on is great and there are other sources other than spudfiles, but i think we should strive to make this the most comprehensive self contained deal on the net.

In a perfect wiki, there would be links to the appropriate wiki page and links to the primary data source, the two types of links should be seperate. For eample, any page that talks about CB ratio and it's affects on performance of a combustion gun has to link to Latke's page since that is the primary source. It may also link to other wiki pages but the Latke link is key.

As to the "common fuels page", that page was copy/pasted (nearly verbatim) from a forum post. It certainly should be "wikified", feel free to do so. I'm sure the original author (me) won't mind.
