| what you are trying to use is perfectly fine for a pill bottle combustion, just open up the long nosed lighter, disconnect both wires going to the little ignitor (white or black thing) and pull it out then attatch one wire to each of your electrode screws and press the button (no fuel in the cannon) and you should see a spark |

| if you want a picture to look at go to offical cannons and look for mini devil. That is how i wired mine if your wondring what the wood piece is, it hold the sparker so it has something to push against. Quite simple. |

| i think he's making a pill cannon ralph, so i dont think he needs that kind of igniter, he just needs a long nose lighter button switch thing like he has i think |

I've got one of the long nosed bbq lighters that someone above said would not work, what should I use for a Mini?
I tried to make one but I think I "flooded" the chmber with gas cos it didn't ignite properle.
For the barrel I have used a texta 'tube', about 6mm diametre and for the combustion chamber I used a photographic film canister.
My fuel varied as I got desperate but all were rated "Flammable Liquid 2".
What am I doing wrong? In the picture is a diagram of my setup. Thanks for any help.

| Couple problems first a long nose lighter sparker will work (look at the Mini Devil in Ofical Cannons) just be carful though cause wires are very losely connected and if not carful get pulled out. Second thing dont look for something that says flammable look for some thing combustable(most thing that are in spray can and say flammable will work). Becasue fuel in cannon doesnt catch on fire it combustes. Third when you get the right fuel spray as little spray in as possible because it is very easy to flood a mini cannon. Fourth your picture link doesnt work on my computer. As far as i can see there is no flaws in the construction just the wrong fuel. |

| I dont think that will work unless you have a very tight fit with the lighter. Just look at my mini devil in Offical Combustion forum worth a thousand words. |

thanks for the help man,
julz.
EDIT: finished the Pocket Rocket, now i'm working on the finishing touches, ie. anything that i can waste money on . damm it was hard to get the stuff cos they're illegal in Australia and everything is expensive as crap. eventually i found a guy who told me where i could get it all.
bye!
ps. hope to start a bigger one as soon as i can |

| i used one and it worked but u need either the kinda bolts i have to conduct (copper w/ insulated copper wire running thru them) or close bolts, which dont always ignite crap. the copper bolts did tho lol |

If you take the lighter apart, you should see a little square thing with some wires comming out of it going into the nozzel/burner. There's a plastic fuel tank that holds the butane that may be next to or around it. Just follow the wires from the burner. The peizo generator is usually just under the trigger.
Anyway, depending on your brand of lighter (I know Aim-n-Flame brand lighters have the gas tank around the ignitor) just pull the gas tank out and pull up on the trigger to remove that part. Pull off the 2 wires going to the burner. On this brand of lighter, the metal terminal near the bottom of the piezo generator is positive and the one closer to the top is the ground terminal. Just twist some wires onto it and attach it to your electrodes
Another brand of lighter (I forgot what brand though) has a similar piezo generator box but it has one wire attached to it and a metal knob at the bottom that touches a metal strip going to the burner to ground it. Disconnect the wire going to the burner and attach it to one electrode on you gun and connect another piece of wire to the metal knob and attach it to the other electrode.
Piezo generators from lighters are not as strong as the larger ones from gas grills so you best keep the gap between the electrodes around 1/8" or just a little more. You should get a good white spark. |
