Latest development:
I learned about sleaving recently. I replaced the 3" Sch40 barrel with a 36" long, 2" Sch80 pipe that was sleeved with a 1 1/2" SDR-21 pipe. The ID of the SDR-21 pipe is perfect for golf balls. The Sch80 pipe both stabilizes and strengthens the thinner and somewhat flexible SDR-21 pipe. I tested the launcher at 70 PSI in this new configuration and the golf ball was nowhere to be found! I have yet to continue the tests because the PEB-150 developed a small leak. Once I fix the leak, I will try some shots with 100 PSI. I will post the results as soon as I can. This is by far, the best performing launcher built to date. |

This is my version of Joel's TSL-1500 except that I used a Rainbird PEB-150 instead of a Supah Valve.
This launcher is an O/U design, as are most of my launchers. I like the looks and the OAL of the launcher is drastically reduced. Note that I could have probably doubled the length of the barrel which would have increased the performance by quite a bit, but at the sake of portability. I may still do that, and the inter-changeable barrels should make it an easy task. Testing with this barrel has been limited, but shows a lot of promise. I try to reduce the space between the barrel and the chamber to a bare minimum, mainly for aesthetics, but also to strengthen the joint at the two elbows.
This is done by careful measurements with the street elbows together, but not glued. Measure the distance between the elbows with the launcher "mocked up". Then measure the distance from the outside edge to the bottom inside "stop ridge" of the elbow and add this measurement to the previous measurement. This is the length of the pipe that will connect the two elbows together. I also make sure that the two elbows are perfectly aligned to each other during glue-up, otherwise the barrel and the chamber will be skewed and not aligned with each other, not a pretty sight!
Note that although not shown in the drawing, the barrel and the chamber are strapped together to further stabilize the weak point, the elbow connection. The elbows in this case are 1 1/2" and the pipe that connects the two elbows together is, of course, also 1 1/2". The Rainbird PEB 150 was chopped for pneumatic actuation and the solenoid discarded. Plug the solenoid port with JB Weld or equivalent. This valve has a manual flow adjustment that is not used in this application. I removed the offending parts and replaced them with a 5/8" bolt that was drilled and tapped for a 1/8" NPT thread. This tapped hole was used to install the blowgun pilot trigger. See the pic below for the details. |

that would be fun driving around the block in a go cart with someone shooting T-shirts to all the people on the block.

well I think that if you spent just a little bit more time of the cannon it would look a lot better, you should also paint it and use a different type of solenoid valve, that one looks funny
