@JSR: Interesting video.
I liked this quote:
"The M2 burst went straight through the wall... and everything beyond."
Well, that's what .50 cal is for - hitting something, and going through both sides of it, and leaving the biggest mess possible on the way. It's pointy, weighs several hundred grains, and is going nearly 1000 m/s - yup, that's going to do the job.
And curses, I meant to add "eternally reliable" to the list.
@markfh11q: Curses, I thought watching downloaded movies and drawing was a good way to live. Good job I'm three stories up...
*Jumps out of window*
*THUD*
Ah sod it, I forgot I'm immortal. |

It makes you appreciate why they like the Barrett for urban combat, not so much for long range power but rather because it means that an enemy sniper hiding behind a brick wall is still fair game. |

@Jack: It could be done with NATO 7.62 to an extent, that will still go through a wall pretty effectively, but without the horrific weight or the limits on the ammunition you can carry of a .50 cal.
Computer games have a problem here. Not many will let you shoot through more than glass (in many, plywood is bulletproof), and I've only seen a couple where a round can go through more than one person (All I can think of now is the Halo sniper rifle and the high power weapons from Rainbow Six - one of the more accurate games I've seen for guns.)
Humourously, I've seen games with the "taped together" clips where the character just keeps turning the clip over and over every time they reload, and miraculously they never run out of ammo. |

This effect can be seen with 7.62 NATO to a lesser degree, and a more ideal compromise for urban combat is the new 50 calibre subsonic "whisper" rounds, like those used in the Russian VSSK that combines increased penetration without the supersonic crack.
In Hitman 2, a 7.62mm round from a sniper rifle or M60 will go through more than one person for multiple kills, and in some scenarios will also penetrate doors or the back of a chair. Ironically, you can't do this with the 50 bmg (even a double kill), but you can with the Desert Eagle
I'm particularly fond of this feature, for example if you know there's an enemy in a room behind a closed door, just empty a few bursts from an M60 et voila This is one of the driving forces behind my quest to build an air machine gun with a low rate of fire but high individual projectile energy.

It's our way of showing how much disdain we have for those who choose to flame this site for no reason other than their own inadequacy |

So you can empty rooms full of nasty types?
This time on the adventures of JSR:
-JSR comes home and realises that the meter reader is inside for some reason, so he grabs his trusty air machine gun and wrecks all his doors.
-JSR realises that a delivery is arriving at his house instead of next door, so he grabs his trusty air machine gun and waits for the doorbell.
-JSR decides his house needs more ventilation so he grabs his trusty air machine gun and turns the walls into sieves. |

I won't go into details on this one, however the cannon you speak of was an official Theopia cannon which was built and won, and paid for before it was even built.
To be honest I have no idea who it may be. Maybe someone from overseas as they refer to "America" as being the only place a website like this would be allowed. Most Americans would never say something like that, or at least not in that way. |

Not on living things but I like to see the effects high velocity rounds have on materials beyond the surface of an object, penetration was always and remains one of my major interests
Your description of my household is not far off however, there isn't a single item of furniture in my room that doesn't have a nick, dent or hole in it, though after upgrading my PC and the window ricochet incident I've largely stopped indoor testing. |

Okay that guy’s done it, now body calls The Judge a fat idiot a lives to tell about it.
Whoever he/she/it is had better start looking behind ‘em when they walk ‘cause someday they’ll wind up with a bullet in their back… naw, make that 6.
On second thought he/she/it’s probably not worth my time, let alone the bullets.
And yes I know that by saying this bull crap I’ve stooped to it’s level, you got a problem with that?
for those who can't tell: I'm joking |

You know Judge, that reminds me of those poorly designed questionnaires some kids make at school with questions like:
Are you male or female?
-Yes
-No
Sex?
To which the only acceptable answer is "Yes Please"
@Grumpy: I got misdirected to this page, which greatly amused me:

| Yeah, I found it, but first time I got misdirected and ran across that page. I assumed that wasn't what you meant, so I tried again and found it the second time. |

I don't see why they didn't just post something in the forums so everyone could hear their whiny opinions.
(Also, who has a problem with ads on here? Google ads aren't annoying at all, and sometime they're actually useful)
| Quote: | | HaHAHAhhhHhAha,erhemmm that is funny shite, don't be surprised if it is from our old friend "Cannon Cre8tor". |
Whatever happened to him? I must have missed something.
offtopic @ Rag & JSR:
The weapons in CoD4 all have unique penetration characteristics that can even be modded when you gain higher ranks. You can shoot through most walls with light weapons, and some brick/concrete with rifles/HMGs.
Of course, actually hitting someone through a wall is pretty hard, and you gain experience bonuses for doing so.
