Composed of 32 machined parts, 26 are unique. Most are made of T6061 Aluminum, some stainless and the rest PVC. If you think its over priced try taking a picture of it to your local machine shop and get a quote. |

| Well when people say they are over priced, they might not be referring to the value of the components themselves as they are obviously not over priced. They may refer to their opinion that anything that shoots a potato should not cost that much. But then again, this kind of situation applies to all sorts of stuff from cars to houses to food etc etc forever. I think some people may simply judge the cannon because it is made of PVC and they make a simple comparison of what it would cost to make their own PVC gun, so its easy to over look the value of the quality components involved. |

I'd agree with Moonbogg here.
For what you're actually building, it's a perfectly valid price - lots of custom and well made parts.
But from another perspective, a thousand bucks is quite a lot to spend on something that's "simply" sending spuds downrange.
Still, you can look at it from another angle. If you look at some of the launchers in my collection (or due to be added to said collection) the development of certain of them has cost no small amount.
I'm sure that when the (infamously delayed) 3vo is done, if I totalled the cost of Behemoth and HEAL in with it - which is not entirely invalid, it's only because of them that I've been able to learn the lessons that can lead to 3vo - then I'd have invested dramatically in excess of the equivalent cost of these launchers (hugely more if I start placing value on the time spent).
And, to be a little less than modest for a moment, I'm competent - very much so.
When even I've invested so much effort, time and money into getting "the right launcher" (not that 3vo will be quite the same as the BL-520... or any other spudgun at all really), the odds are not with anyone else - especially the average Joe.
If you're looking for a combustion, what UltimateSpudgun produces is, in simple terms, the best. Reliable, powerful, quick to reload, simple to operate... you're not going to find better in a combustion.
So really, if you look at the price and think it looks high, there's probably some stuff you forgot to count. |

Could it be that the cannon isn't overpriced at all but, instead you don't have the disposable income to make such purchases?
Considering the builders investment:
Maybe $200K+ in machine tools and tooling.
CadCam software $20k.
Design time and labor required to produce a prototype.
Cost of material.
Cost of advertising.
Shop Rent.
Electrical power.
Insurance.
Payroll.
Taxes.
Blaw, Blaw, Blaw.
You can't compare the price of this unit to a unit made in the backyard with a meat axe and block of wood ....they're not the same thing. $1.000 is a very fair price. |

Moon, Rag, Vel,
Thanks guys. I'm sure Mike wants to say certain things but he's gotta toe the line. What something costs and what something is worth to somebody else is always the issue. I couldn't say it better than you guys. BTW, the last CNC we got was over $72K....

( edit: Either I never read page 4 or we all replied simultaniously)
I would not be able to build this for less.
People clearly do not understand the work, machining, manhours, blood, sweat and tears that go into this kind of thing.
If you would want to build this yourself you would first need to buy a lathe, a mill, several other tools to just get you started.
People who choose to buy this or any other of our SPONSOR's creations are not being ripped off.
In fact...I have spent a lot...yes a lot more on building spudguns and still do not have anything to this building standard. It is really a complete product.
A customer get's the very best without having to take the route we take...wich is more expensive in the end without garanteed succes..
We like the creative part, some don''t particularly care for that process..
They just want to have a spudgun. And this ( for a combustion) is the best I have seen so far...
Although I would have to say I would never buy a complete cannon because I like the torment..
