Nothing too fancy. Just a sprinkler valve Rifle (yes, it really is a rifle) with a paint job and 3 interchangeable barrels. 1/2", 3/4" and 1" for whatever I feel like shooting.

The name is because, it is so fun to shoot beehives (the small ones with only 4-5 bees in them) from a distance and make them fall which in turn makes the bees confused and hover around for something to sting.

The Damage:

I highly doubt that unless you have rifling on your barrels:

rifle
Noun
1. a firearm having a long barrel with a spirally grooved interior, which gives the bullet a spinning motion and thus greater accuracy over a longer range

Anyway, nice simple plinker cannon. Good work on the video too.

I do realize what a rifle is, and yes I do have rifling on the barrels. I used this tutorial by rna_duelers.
(can't wait to get my post count up so people actually believe me.....)

Yes, I never said I didn't believe you. You just didn't say that you had rifling or show a picture, and judging by that first picture at the top of the page I couldn't see any signs of rifling.

You don't need a higher post count to get respect or people to believe you, take Larda for example. Razz

...and "Mr." is also a moderator so you might want to lower your tone a bit.

I have to say that for as much effort as you took to claim it was rifled in your first post, but not showing a picture of the rifling, it seems like you were baiting the first one to question you. Rifling is kind of a big deal with these things...surely you realized someone would raise a flag.

You did a decent job on the gun. While the rifling is a good effort, the difference it will make on guns like this is questionable...really depends on your ammo and projectile velocity. Good job on the damage video. However, the music track just not my cup of tea.

Might I suggest staying away from the beehives. Never know when you might come up on a Africanized hive Wink You will be sorry you shot them.

Yeah, I know... but no matter how much I tried I couldnt get a good pic. Now I do realize that I wouldve said the same thing.

I do think the rifling is probably doing nothing, but hey, if you can do it... why not?

The pic you posted wasn't bad. Barrels are tricky. Turn off the flash, go into manual focus if you can, and go into telescopic mode as much as possible without going into "digital zoom"...step back from the barrel a bit. Use a light source like sunlight shining in from the other end, but not quite directly looking at the sun. Shed some light on the barrel from right behind the camera to help to illuminate the opening.

Very nice! Blowguns are by compressors/power tools by the way in Ace, Menards, Lowes, and Home Depot. I had a hard time finding them too.
But if you like the ball valve, I'd recomend you get it spring loaded, just to have less ofset of the barrel when firing.
Also, how are those rifled barrels working out for you?

Heres' how I spring load ball valves:

It opens them faster, and with less barrel ofset. You also get to pull a trigger, which kicks @$$!

Thanks for the diagram. Its kind of awkward to trigger the ball valve with the way I have it set up so I will probably try that soon. Smile

Yeah, when I was at lowes, I was rushed because I had to go somewhere soon and didn't have time to browse and look for things like blowguns.

About them rifled barrels, I think they are working out pretty well. The marbles I shoot go in a straight line and the only thing messing them up is gravity. The grapes I shoot definitey could go straighter, but thats to be expected. I would say the rifling isn't doing that much anyway.

Also one thing I didn't foresee was the huge amount of weight on the sprinkler valve. Anyone have any ideas how to combat that other than using a bipod or resting the barrel on something.

Shortening your barrels some may be your only option without redesign. One big advantage of the over and under gun style is barrel reinforcement and support.

Post count doesn't really matter as far as that goes. You sorta need to build up the credit with good quality (not quantity) posting and proof of your previous claims.
Anyway, even with what credit I have, and my post count, I'd still be asked for proof should I make most claims - Because usually such a claim more than cool enough that people would like to see it anyway. Very Happy

It's not a matter of post count. Old hands and regulars fast cut away from the importance of post count, other than: "Cool, I got 1,000 posts. Should I now go get a life? ...Nah!" Razz

Anyway, I have a new question. Did you optimise the rifling twist rate for any of your projectiles?

What I meant by "post count" was recognition. So more people can know that I am not one of them people who don't have any clue what they are talking about.

Also knowing that I wouldn't really be doing and long distance shooting the rifling was more for practice than practicality. (and the fact that rifle sounds better than gun) Cool

In other words, no I didn't try to optimize the twist. I just wanted a nice easy plinker that I could make with most of the things I already have.

Anyway, I think I will have to shorten the barrels. No point in having your gun blow up just for a few fps. Shocked
