More and more members of spudfiles are getting access to high-speed cameras, so I've created this thread for users to show off their high-speed clips.

For those of you who don't have said cameras, feel free to request that somthing be filmed in slow-motion, and anyone with the resources and time should be able to make it happen.

The clips don't need to be spud-related, and try and keep everything within the forum rules. If you have videos of the fabled 'magic dust' or anything else that breaches forum rules, it might be a good idea to not directly link them here. I'm sure people can find them on youtube and we don't need that sort of thing associated with the forum.

Also, if anyone is doing high-speed still photography, feel free to post your images here.

Anyway, to get the ball rolling, here's my collection of high-speed clips, all of which have been filmed with the Casio EX-FC100:

Great stuff!

As requested in the other thread, it would be amazing if someone with a high speed camera could so some research on the function of BBMGs, both at the muzzle & breech (a clear chamber would be perfect) and on target. The former would provide invaluable details on what actually goes on that would help development, the latter would just be for the "PHOAR!" factor Very Happy

Well, I don't have a compresser, or any bb's so I might have to let somone else do that. I might be able to make one using a 2L soda bottle as a temporary chamber... I'll take a look at what I've got tomorrow and see if I can do it.

I remember DR posting a video of a cloud made with a soda bottle, but it wasn't high speed footage.

@JSR
YES! AGREE!
A BBMG with clear chamber should definitely be highspeeded!
Try it with a cloud, and then with a vortex block.
This is one of the things that might make a big difference in BBMG development as most of the vortex block tweaks are just guesses. Now we could actually see what the heck is going on.

@Insomniac
Nice video's. I like the insects flying around. Cute.
It might be hard to do but I wonder how a bee would react to a small (not harmful) puff of air while flying (or else when stationary).

You might also look into studying how sabots detach from their projectiles (slug or buckshot) and check how to muzzle blast affects it.

Damn. that last clip was a nice one. It is rather ironic that this thread came up the day that I emailed my retailer about mine. It keeps freezing during normal video. I will be without it for 1.5 months!!!!!!

any indoor requests are welcome until I have to send it along. I may post later with my existing videos.

Damn, one and a half months! That's a pretty long time to get it serviced. You have the EX-F1 don't you?

Here's an interesting vid I caught... I fired a dart into a balloon, and it went all the way through to the other side, bounced off it, and then sunk to the bottom before the balloon burst. I have it at 210 fps and as a frame-by-frame to make it easier to see what happened.

I just got the FS10 as I said in my other thread (good idea on this one btw)

Anyway here are a couple clips, and Ill happily make a clear cloud if you want. Would you like it mainly focused on chamber or on target?

Haha ok Ill do both but for now heres the chamber, I just threw a cloud together in a couple minutes.

This is a firing at 70 psi, I know the barrel is really short but its the longest piece of clear tubing I had tonight.

Looks incredibly inefficient to me, Ill be making a vortex tomorrow hopefully that should look better.

Very nice, I was wondering if the 1000fps would be quick enough (some things just can't be seen properly with these cameras) but it's done the job quite nicely.

I'm surprised at how much time there is between shots... Was it firing at a good rate in real time?

YES! thank you!

And people wonder why I used to try so hard to find an alternative to the BBMG Smile

Amazing stuff, you've got me tempted to invest in one of these things now. What's the actual frame rate, ie by what factor is it slower than real time?

It can record at 210 fps (reasonable resolution, doesn't need too much light), 420 fps (somewhat lower resolution, needs a bit more light), and 1000 fps (the very narrow resolution, needs sunlight or very bright lamps to be useable). The vids are played back at 30fps.

The EX-F1, which is a bit more expensive than the EX-FC100 (the compact one I have), and the EX-FS10 (the even more compact version which jor2daje has) can do 300, 600 and 1200 fps and again plays them back at 30fps. It also generally has higher resolution in high-speed mode, although it only has a 6mp sensor (ex-fc100 and ex-fs10 are 9mp). The EX-F1 can burst 60 images in a second, the compacts can only do 30.

There's also the EX-FH20 which has the same video capability as the compacts, but a better lens, and it can burst 40 images in a second.
