Of course there are more applications, you could simulate runaway turbine blades...

Or make a slightly bigger one Very Happy

As I was writing my earlier comment I knew *someone* was going to post that family guy clip:)

I think he mentioned it being around half an inch thick, kinda thin for pipe that size. Probably something right under sch40. A TIG welder? that would have to be a HUGE tig welder.

Also, I would like to propose:

Sch 30 pipe.

And I'm not 100% sure about the welding since I didn't do it myself, but I believe it was MIG.

Mig welding its not the strongest welding but with a fat pipe like that you need to be fast , no need to change your stick.....

I'll take your word for it.

I just took it to my friendly neighborhood pressure-vessel certified welder and said, "Stick this here pipe to that there fittin' really good!" He provided me with 1" fillets.

Fascinating..I loved the air wave out of the barrel before the sabot and projectile in the second shot. What is the range of the orange projectile you were shooting?

Well, we aren't trying for accuracy and that's a damned good thing because the gun isn't very accurate (something about looong barrels sagging under their own weight). So basically we've been shooting at 50 meters.

But at least we're consistent. About a foot low and left. I suppose we can start using Kentucky Windage if the trend continues.

Well to hit your target you have to lick your thumb and touch the front sight and repeat one of the best movie lines ever "Aim small. mis small" then you'll hit the mark! Wink

That is one freaking beautiful video! I'm jaw-dropped. Congratulations on all that hard work paying off! (And hooray for gov't money well spent for a change!)

And if you look closely, you'll notice that on the muzzle end of the barrel support structure there is already an anchor point. I hope I don't have to go there, but if I do....

And while I'm posting, some folks have commented that they like the last pic so I've uploaded it.

That is one beautiful picture with the sunset in the backround!

It makes a decent desktop backround image!
