Today I came across this[urlhttp://water4gas.com/2books.htm?hop=iworldsell][/url]. Do you guys think this is truly a scam or do you think it may actually work? I would be willing to give it a try, but not pay the $100 for the books.

Look, energy can't be created nor destroyed. You're going to need energy to convert the water into something burnable. So if it really is doing it by converting water into hydrogen "on the fly", then you're going to be needing a big assed battery in your car.

They tried something like that on Mythbusters, and it did diddely-squat, but they could have easily screwed up somewhere. This isn't a scam. You'll get what you pay for- instructions on how to build an electrolysis machine.

So basically, it's just a big "?" to me too. Who knows, it may make your car more efficient...or rust your engine...your call Razz

I'm hoping that they'll eventually just start using some of these new synthetic materials in cars, which will make them considerably lighter and stronger. Then mabye we could just run them off straight electricity.

Well I would give it a try. There is no way though that I will by the instructions though. How will it make my engine rust when the water will be contained? Why would I need a bigger battery? Wont my altenator keep it charged enough? Sorry for the somewhat stupid questions?

The energy consumed splitting the water into hydrogen and oxygen gas is greater than the energy produced by combusting said gas (obviously Rolling Eyes ), so I fail to see how this would help. Now if you created your own oxy/hydrogen mix at home with wind turbines or solar cells used to provide the electricity to split the water, then you'd be in business (and also out several thousand dollars in the short term), but you won't be able to get enough flow out of an electrolysis machine that can fit easily in a car and be run off the battery to actually power the car to highway speeds. Not even close.

lol. Im sorry to insult your intelligence, but come on. Im not gonna go into the chemistry, because whoever asks this question wont understand it. Im just gonna let you know that if this technology actually did work it would already be exploited, and not on sketchy websites, or 3 am infomercials.

A few people in NZ have gotten a car to work solely on water, they were even shown on the news except they can't tell you how it works for security reasons.

I think one of them sold out to a fuel company...

Thats what I wanted to hear. The idea seems plausible but as mentioned above it would use more power than it creates.

You can't power a car just using on-board hydrolysis. Thermodynamics says it's impossible. It has to use energy to break an amount water down which it's COMPLETE COMBUSTION (cars don't get near this much less be able to utilize most the energy from what they do combust) produces less energy then needed to break down an equal amount of water as before.

People need to be taught the laws of thermodynamics and conservation of energy.

I know but if I reduce the amount of gasoline I am using by replacing it by hho then I should get better mileage. Please correct me if I am wrong.

From this point on please refer to "hho" as hydrogen and oxygen. The term "hho" is used to lure ignorant people into thinking this is some new revolutionary gas.

Alright, look at it like this:

You are burning gasoline to make power
You are burning more gasoline to generate the extra electricity needed to split the water molecules into Hydrogen and Oxygen
You are getting some of that energy back from burning the gas in the engine
You are operating at a net energy loss. You're burning more BTUs of gasoline than you are forming via the electrolysis process.

I think you need to understand that hydrogen and Gasoline burn at different rates. The ability to burn gasoline and hydrogen in the same engine at different times is quite the works. I'm not saying its impossible but difficult.
Injectors have to be changed, electronics, etc. All that to deal with burning hydrogen then switching over quickly to gasoline(ie: while running). Yes you can pump hydrogen into the intake but from what I've heard it doesn't do much. You'd be better off squirting carb cleaner down the intake and saying its an increase in horse power and fuel economy.

I think the real promise for cheaper fuel costs is back to the old days. Ethanol and veg oil. Leave it up to the people to make their own fuels.

http://www.instructables.com/id/Run-Your-Car-on-Hydrogen-from-Aluminum -Soda-Cans-a/
A Friend of mine volunteers at ACCRC (Alameda county computer recycling center) and they modded a car to run off hydrogen. It doesn't take anything special, in fact they just used a tuna can to regulate it...
I know this isn't running off water, just disproving all of the claims that you cant burn hydrogen like you do gasoline.

Being able to function and being able to function efficiently are not the same thing.
