Hi
I just made my first potato cannon and it doesnt work.
http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/viewtopic,p,88155.html#88155
It worked for a test last night and now it doesnt.
It wasnt sparking reliably at all so I fixed the spark gap and now it has a constant, smaller, spark.
So I spray in some right guard (same thing I used before) and It wont fire.
wtf
I did the exact same thing and It doesnt work??
someone help. |

hmm , could be a number of things, i had this same problem with my combustion gun. it was usually when i sprayed hairspray in the chamber it got on the tips of the metal rods so then it couldnt spark. i would wipe it off real good and that usually fixed it. after a few shots build up would happen again, just had to keep cleaining it. also it got to where the wires would short across where they were the closest. nice gun btw, i really like the grip.

| I have the solution! Build a pnuematic! You will never have to worry about sparks or spraying in deoderant. |

It take the end cap off and look and its sparking.
Is the spark too small??
its about |-| maybe a bit smaller.
and I like combustion... |

| Sorry man I cant really give you much advice, I am pnuematic person myself. Although from what I have gathered, making a propane setup has a lot of benefits that will led to a more consistant approach to it. |

i to am a pneumatic guy, but i have heard the same thing so many times, try spraying less deodorant in, you may have got a little happy with the spray |

Experiment with different amounts of hairspray. Sounds like you could be using too much.
Try a chamber fan or something to mix the oxygen and hairspray.
Ventilate the chamber after each shot. |

| sounds like your fuel to air ratio is too in favour of the fuel...like what has been said...test a very small amount and see if you get ignition...keep increasing until you cant get ignition and you will then know in future if you have put too much fuel in....like keep it real said...chamber fan will probably help alot |

Dont use aerosols that arnt going to burn clean
my suggestion would be to move to something that is a clean hydrocarbon
so you just get CO2 and H20 vapor, not grimy crap to get stuck on your electrodes.
When i made my first combustion, i used a can of butane (like the kind you use for a refillable lighter) and sprayed pure butane into my chamber then capped it and fired
just be careful cause butane comes out in liquid spray in that form, you wont need much at all. |

| I agree, either too much spray, use only about 2 seconds. or u need to allow more oxygen in the chamber along with your spray, after i shoot mine i open it up and blow a couple times to get the vapors out. |

Since you have found a working air/fuel mixture, this is not the issue, as the 4 people who failed to comprehend the original post suggested.
When using aerosol fuels without a chamber fan, it is often difficult to ignite the air/fuel mixture with a small spark gap, because the mixture tends not to diffuse adequately between the ignition electrodes.
Clean the electrodes, check all connections between the igniter and electrodes for integrity, and set the gap back to it's original position. If you do not get a spark, you are going to have to install a chamber fan, and use a smaller gap. |

Sorry to be so blunt, but can you f*cking read?
