1'' Sprinkler Valve Pneumatic Cannon

Unread postAuthor: millons70 » Sun Oct 20, 2013 3:51 pm

It's an ugly design, but it gets the job done. I had these parts lying around so I decided today would be a great day for a cannon.

Parts List:
3'' pipe
3'' end cap
3''-2'' reducer
Image
2''-1'' bushing
A 2'' stub of 1'' pipe
2* 1'' threaded male couplings? (I'm not exactly sure what to call them :p)

Barrel of your choice

Filling valve(I used a male compressor connect fitting)
Pressure Gauge (Optional)

Modded Sprinkler valve

Let's get started!
1. Get your pipe cut! You only need 2 inches of 1'' pipe, and whatever size air tank. I used about 42 inches of 3".

2.Add the fill valve and gauge.
I just used a drill press to get accurate holes. I used a 1/2 standard drill bit for these. I don't have a tap set on hand so I just muscled these fittings in!

Don't forget the teflon tape!

3. Glue!
First just dry fit your fittings before you glue, you don't want to waste any pvc.

Now Glue it all together, and give it time to dry.

Hopefully a video soon!

Looks good, but if your goal is to make a how-to, I wouldn't suggest using DWV parts (not rated for pressure). Just be careful.

Otherwise, nice first cannon. :P

That's what I've read, but what bushing is rated? At Menards, the bushing for 3'' to 2'' seems to have even less of a slip fit on the 2'' side. It also says it's dwv. Thanks

The plain truth is that no big box store is going to have fittings that large pressure rated. You're going to have to order them online or search out a supplier locally.
