how to convert fps into mph

Take your feat per second that your object is traveling and multiply by 3600 which is the amount of seconds in one hour now take the number you just created by multiplying and divide it by 5280 which is the feat in a mile the number now created by dividing is the mph



-----*multplied by 3600=--------divided by 5280=---------
fps answer mph

Or if you have a mac, hit F12, and type in the FPS to your conversion widget. Poof.

yeah but not every body has a mac plus you could do this in your head or if your like me with a calculater but thanks for the input

Please use some punctuation, as it makes your posts easier to read.

Please use equation form when describing mathematics, as it makes the math easier to understand.

MPH = Miles Per Hour
FPS = Feet Per Second

MPH = FPS * (seconds per hour)/(feet per mile)

seconds per hour = 3600
feet per mile = 5280

MPH = FPS * 3600 / 5280

Simplify:

MPH = FPS * 0.682

By the way, The plural form for a unit of measurement equal to twelve inches is spelled "Feet".

ok guys.. stop trying to be geniuses...

1 mph=1.45 fps...

that is exact to and the easiest way to do it...god..

speed of sound 1100 fps=758 mph..

Since we are all getting technical, I would assume that 1100 FPS / 758 MPH for the speed of sound would be at sea level.

And, just for laughs, what is the speed of sound in space?

Another method is go to google and type in the search bar "564 feet per second in mph"

Google is the best tool, it can convert just about anything you can think of

dewey-1 - if you're going to get all technical and precise, perhaps you should follow protocol and simplify your fraction to 22/15.

Dimensional Analysis to the rescue!

n feet per second * (3600 feet per hour / 1 foot per second) * (1 mile per hour / 5280 feet per second) =

Cancel your units, simplify, and you get MPH = (3600n)/5280.

So just quit bitching and listen to smiley face and freefall! :wink:

Protocol is just a standard set of rules governing how things should be done.

How is dimensional analysis, in any way shape or form, bullsh*t?

I figure the fewer things I have to remember, the better. Why should I remember 88fps=60mph, when I can easily derive it from what I already know (5280 feet per mile, 60 seconds per minute, 60 minutes per hour)?

(yes, now I'm just arguing for the sake of arguing.)

Oh, and 11/32 - 3/64 = 19/64, done in my head in about three seconds. Done with the protocol of converting each fraction to a common denominator. It's really not that hard.

Basically, what me and Freefall are trying to stress is the importance of mathematics. You can scrape your way through a few algebra classes guesstimated with decimals, but if you want to go any further you gotta be meticulous and careful in how you deal with problems.
