Great work again, what material are you using for the final projectile and what are you going to do/use to harden the tip?

Edit:

Oh and if the dart ends up tumbling you could try and grind down the fin edges on a slant to induce a spin, I think Ragnarok brought the idea up once in a bottle rocket thread and i've been keen to find how well it works. It could help with penetration and drag too.

Today i machined the final projectiles, they are made of C45E and will be Flame hardened. Material specification sheet

Not much more to say then OMG... Is it supposed to be gold in color on the fins?

Nice work (as always). You got some serious ammo there. Any specs on them?

@rp181 The gold color is from the machining done to the fins. Or maybe the flash hitting a flat surface.

Awesome work there Lars, how long was the process from start to finish with each dart? Almost a shame to obliterate these works of art, at least you will be doing some serious carnage, they are just beautiful :)

Lars, I can honestly say, if I was gay, I'd want to have your children. Those have to be the nicest projectiles i have ever seen on SpudFiles. You sir, deserve some SERIOUS recognition. Again, awesome work man.

Beautiful work Larda! You apparently decided against a fin twist of any sort. That would make your machining both the projectiles and the sabots a little more complicated but not terribly so. I think you should try a couple of them anyway and compare performance on longer shots.

With my estimate of 1700mph, i came up with roughly 2500fps... to get to my point, WHAT DOESNT HAVE PERFORMANCE AT 2.5kfps????

Larda=SpudGod

definitely worth trying an accurate shot(within a foot) from 700yards+

Stability and thus accuracy in flight is the purpose of the twist, not just sheer velocity. If the shot is a 1 meter blast into plate steel it's no big deal. If it's a 100 meter or further shot into anything it could be a big deal.
