Vera suffers a setback. :(

Unread postAuthor: D_Hall » Wed Aug 12, 2009 12:52 am

I was in a meeting with my boss's boss (and others) today and the topic of Vera came up. There was some light-hearted discussion about what the first projectiles would be. Potatoes were definately mentioned.

Somebody else mentioned bringing in the Guiness Book folks to go for the record of World's Most Powerful Potato Gun. Everyone thought it would be fun and it wouldn't really cost anything since we'd have to do calibration shots on the gun anyways (during which time the choice of projectile doesn't really matter)....

...But the big boss nixed that idea. He had all sorts of visions about how that would look in the papers. Basically, it would be a public relations nightmare. The gun is legit and all, but how could you possibly explain all that money spent to build the WMPPG? That's the sort of thing that the press hangs people over without even asking for clarification.

We had to agree that it would most likely look bad (even if it was totally innocent).

And so... No Guiness Book attempts for Vera. :(

On the brighter side, today the fuel injectors were installed and tomorrow the chamber fans should be in place.

Many Western governments waste so much money on ridiculous quangos and the like, surely there must be a percentage of tax payers who would rather see their hard earned being spent in this manner?

It would be cool to load a sackful of potatoes and shoot at a big plywood screen, without going for an official record :)

We should start a myth that it is impossible for Buster to exceed the speed of sound :D

Hmm, that would be more than hilarious, anyone up for typing them an email?

Next episode:

"today we had an email from a somewhat strange person who calls himself
-ragnarok
or
-Jack's smirking revenge
He told us, while roaming the internet he found a myth saying buster could eceed the speed of sound.

We thought that there would only be one way of doing this, by finding a HUGE patato gun, soon after we heard about the vera..."

That would be plain irony, too bad it wouldn't happen...Oh well, eanough senseless blabbering from me...

Well technically that works to, but why simple if there is a hard way, and lets be honest:

A x meter long spudgun that generates several thousand psi apon firing, and that most probably cost sever hundreds of thousands of dollars to build is so much more fun!

Hmm...if you guys use plastic projectiles please use a long rubber dart once and get your self the record for largest pneumatic dildo ever built, ask your boss if that would be a fair deal.
Also tax payers wouldn't mind i assume...Heck if i had the space i'd make it my self.

You don't need an official record, the recognition you'll get from the spudding community should be plenty.

So, instead of a spud shoot a frozen chicken, better yet a 25 lb turkey!

Most people in the US now realize that there is a damn good reason for having a gun capable of firing poultry at high speed since it is needed for testing bird strikes on aircraft and engines.

Just ask Capt. Sullenberger.

Or, use a Canada Geese, we all know how evil the Canadians are. They deserve it. :D
