I agree Moon -

And with that said - Yes I do have a golden project planned - in fact I didnt even plan on ever finishing this gun up with a stand after the project died last winter... At least it's got a stand now and its working out as a nice test bed for some future ideas...

Here's tonight's progress - not much but I might be leaving a thing or two out.

Gun's all welded up and in its final resting place now!

Not too shabby welds

Hey! That looks like it lines up! (good enough to get it hand tight without any binding!)

I took the liberty of facing down the conical sealing face and putting a nice bevel on it then sanding it with high grit sandpaper - came out nice and smooth

Not sure if the union is similar to the smaller malleable iron ones found at Home Depot and the likes but to get a reliable seal I (and others) have had to grind flat the face of the union with the 'lip' (or however you call that thing in the picture above) so there's more surface area for it to grip the burst disks.

Anyway, that's just my experience and your union may be different or you may have had more success with that union than others. Just thought I'd chime in incase you had any sealing problems.

I've already set up a test rig with the old union that was cut out (same union though) and I have no problem sealing 160psi for a minute with it...

That said unions in general suck... but I do seem to be blessed with a properly sealing conical faced union - mind you when we used these same unions on a job for a large water demineralizing system for a power plant we needed 3foot pipe wrenches to get them to seal under 300psi of water lol! Lucky me i get to use stuff like a thin layer of silicone sealing on the chamber side to help alleviate the torque needed down to a 1foot pipe wrench.

All the more reason to get this project out the door to start the next one! :)

Wow! There hasn't been too much traffic in this forum since I last visited.
I've been hella busy with all sorts of stuff at school ranging from research, projects, and interviewing for some "neat" jobs :D

I've left his guy sit partially finished in my basement for too long though! I came home this weekend with a vengeance - I was going to finish this darn tootin thing.

Without further ado -

The final product

Compared to the render
Image

As you can see it came out pretty nicely!

That grey box houses all sorts of goodies, including:
All electronics - metering valves, digital dual range pressure sensor, ignition circuit
Fuel Propane
Air hook up

And attached to it is a 25-30 foot long remote ignition control (Yea, I pretty much abandoned the idea of shooting this thing anti-aircraft gun style after a few test shots).

Should have some nice damage and general performance shots and hopefully a nice video with some slow-mo, in the next month or so :banghead: until then it's plenty of this :study: . Man let me tell you how much of a waste that thing was - NOT. I love my FH-100 but I've gotten to use it 1 day this summer i've been so busy lol. Go figure I saved over the footage anyways.

Hopefully this puts the nail in the coffin of this project so I can start planning out and purchasing for the next one, which will sadly be able to shoot holes through this one lol.

Little update:

Tuned the field box today. Fueling and firing are now very easy at any mix#. Been working a while on this little guy while I had spare time, which is like a few hours every month lol so that's why it's been soooooo dragged out.

Here's a few pictures. The box basically makes this setup - "instant 11X hybrid, just add air!" and setup is now about a minute... Which still frustates me lol

Manometric metering? Me like :D

Any reason why you're not using MAPP instead of propane? I haven't done any HGDT simulations comparing the two recently, but last I recall, there is a noticeable difference in performance (price too! :()
