the JAUSH

Unread postAuthor: sniperjosh » Sat Jul 07, 2007 4:53 am

Hi there guys, just posting to let you know ive just finished getting my JAUSH (Josh's aussie Hybrid) operational. Its a small callibre compact aluminium chambered hybrid. Tomorrow im doing some testing etc so ill post pics and maybe a dodgy video or two. So far it has run perfect at 4x mixes (didnt want to go higher as it is night time and neighbours lights went on after a 4x shot) The chamber strength will hold some serious mixtures however. ignition is a 100kv stungun and "sparkplug" i made. Ive made many pneumatics before this but never posted any of them on spudtech or any other forums, but i will post a few pics soon of them aswell. Just giving u guys a headsup to look out for the JAUSH on the forums in the next day or two :) * shoutout to any aussies on the forums *

Hey Josh- Aussie here,

Can't wait to see your pics bro, i've recently finished my hybrid (Stainless Steel) but i can't take it over a 2x mix because my spark aint juicy enough-
Where did you get your stun gun from, that would be perfect for mine!

What chamber capacity is yours, mine is about 500ml and rocks at 2x,
The damage at 4x would be catastrophic!

Peace
Scotty

hey scotty, mines smaller than 500ml id say, i forget the exact dimensions of the chamber as i got it custom machined from a solid piece and ive forgotten what dimensions it is (keep in mind this hybrid was about 99% complete for last 8 months or so, and all memory of the dimensions is long forgotten :P)
I got my stungun from a website who sell it as a "kit" - i got them to send me the stungun circuit without the casing, and they imported it to me under "electronic components" - so there was no issues getting it through customs, ill pm u the website. My spark plug shorts out at top of the plug when i go to 5x mix, dodgy insulation, im gonna epoxy the top and seperate the wires. Other than that she rocks. It has a 20mm (3/4") PVC x 1m pressure pipe for barrel and ill throw together some ghetto barrels for testing in other calibres.

Kewl thanks Josh, if you know the amount of fuel you need for a 0x shot i.e. normal combustion, then you should be able to work out very easily what capacity she is (Need between 4-7% propane or butane for every 100ml, or 4-7cc for every 100cc)

How much did your kit cost?
You on the East Coast?

Peace

0x is normal combustion? I thought it was 1x.

It is. I suppose a 0x mix would be inside of a vaccum with its own oxidizing agent.

hey scotty and others (yes scotty im east coast, sydney. Kit was around 40-50AU incl postage) , ive spent a few hours firing the beast today, unfortunately my camera phone has been on charge all day and my firing setup is underneath my house (insulates the noise). After i scrambled up through the spiders and dirt i really didnt feel liek getting back in there (plus its fairly dark, even with the mini shooting range / lights setup i made). i did however retrieve some burst disks and photographed them. the day was spent firing a few 4x shots for warmups, then 5x, then i mainly did 6x shots all day, with three 7x shots to finish the day off. The gun performed suprisinlgy well for such a tiny chamber (chamber is 180mm deep, wall thickness of 11mm, rear wall is 20mm thick, I.D of approx 31mm). I used a few different barrels:10MM I.D. aluminium tube x 1.5m (loose fit for 3/8 steel balls); 1.5m approx glass marble claibre barrel (ghetto setup, temporary for the day - will be replacing with a 2m version and setup better); in 20mm (3/4") pressure pipe i have two barrels, an 80cm, and a 200cm; in 25mm (1") i also have two barrels of 80cm and 200cm. The gun failed to run witht he 2m long barrles with a 4x, but 5x and over the barrels ran beauifully (in both 1inch and 3/4inch calibres). i own a shooting chrony also, but dont have a setup for dark areas (ill make one soon), ill be recording some speeds soonish. ive made many glass marble pneumatics and am quite familiar with the penetration of the marbles, so my guess for the 1.5m barrel @ 6x is about 550-600fps, judging by the penetration. my targets where layers of 1/2" MDF and 5/8" chipboard. To me the marble calibre seemed ot restrict flow alot, showing pretty limited power imo; im going to attempt to solve this with a better 2m barrel setup and a straight barrel (barrel wasnt straight) and try a bit higher mixture - i woudl like to get around 850fps with these marble barrels. Its obvious that the 20mm and 25mm barrels are getting higher speeds (ammo is wodden dowels). Overall im happy with the guns performance, my original ambition of supersonic marbles may be unreachable, though. I defianately want to go supersonic with this chamber though, just need to play with some ammo ideas - im conifdent the 20mm calibre will deliver such results. The burst discs i am using are perfect, and only costing me 5cents a shot, they are the bottoms cut out of diposable plastic cups, i bought 100 for $5AU And they work beautifully for 4x -> 7x (havent tested 8x +). Most of the center of the disc breaks into pieces and fly out the barrel (occurs 5x +), the pieces are small and dont obstruct flow. The gu is only in an operational state, and will sport many improvements soon, incl a 0-1150psi gauge to record peak pressure (need to get a check valve), a Timber housing which will hide all gas lines / electronics (apart from remote trigger). Thought id give out a few observations and info on my testing for all to enjoy. Ive been a member on spudtech for about 3 years, this seems to be the new spudtech>>?? just wondering what happened to it?? - cheers, josh.

Cptn_law, im not sure, i have a chronny but i havent done any recording of the hybrid yet, all times firing i was behind the barrel, so all i coudl hear was a big boom on all shots, unless there was some way to safely stand down range to the side, then i might hear the sonic boom (i think ill wait to chronny instead :o). All shots where wodden dowels with cloth tap to make the fit snug, and final layer is masking tap to reduce friction (cloth tape has soft plastic surface which grips the barrel more). The wodden projectile are only light pine wood, they are punching through 5/8" Chipboard @ 35 feet approx, its hard to tell liek i said as the penetration doesnt seem supersonic level, but the projectile is large and lightweight with a flat head, so u might say the penetration is high for such a projectile. chronny will tell.

you know i shoot little pepper out of my air rifle, and it does a supersonic boom...so i guess your hybrid does it.

Hmmmm, its a hybrid tho, it makes a big bang, not necesarrily a sonic boom tho :( - Though i hope it is :)

update: Blew a 1inch sch40 barrel with 7 or 8x (hard to tell which because of dodgey gauge, chamber was presurised to 110psi prior to ignition (if gauge is accurate, it appears damaged). New gauge to be fitted and chronny to be setup for low light use - The gun seems to be very powerful @ 6x, but this dodgy gauge is making my mixtures not ideal form what i can see.

i have taken some low quality pictures (i only have a camera fone, no digi cam) of the JAUSH in its bare-operational-stage. i will post up a thread on the gun in the finished cannon area tomorrow.
