effest of various compounds on PVC?

Unread postAuthor: singularity » Thu Aug 23, 2007 7:36 pm

does anyone know what baking soda citric acid (solid form) and water will o to pvc when they are mixed together? i know they produce a decent amount of pressure, i mixed them in a water bottle then sealed it and it exploded. im thinking could be a possible power source for a burst disc cannon... but im not sure how quickly it will deteriorate the pvc.

i have no idea, but if it blew up a soda bottle it might just be smart to simply make it out of threaded iron pipe.

PVC is resistant to both Citric acid and Sodium Bicarbonate.

The reaction will produce Water, Carbon Dioxide, and Sodium Citrate, none of which deteriorate PVC.
