Ballistics gel and polyurethane piston?

Unread postAuthor: hotknife ralphie » Sat Jan 19, 2008 6:13 am

I was just watching the superhero Mythbusters special and to make a durable fist casting, they mixed the usual ballistics gel with polyurethane to make it very solid and rubbery. I was wondering if this could have any promise to make pistons with. The main reason I ask is because the epoxy at the hardware store is insanely expensive ($15AUD) for a very small amount (24ml). I probably should know if this would work but I was always terrible at chemistry and chemistry related things.

ballistics gel melts in room temperature i do not know what the polyurathane will do to that but i expect it will just melt away the same.

Why not use pure polyurethane without ballistics gel.
Ballistics gel is as shock resistant as human tissue, I dont think it could handle all the stress put on a piston for long.
