hehe I'm sure they would! Loading them into a shotgun would probable mean that the thin tail fins bite into the wad with the shock of firing.

I assume those were not the saboted projectiles?

I think I'm going to have to get me a shotgun soon. Her in 'murica, that's just a short drive down the road.

The ones they likened to a "Fostner" round were awesome! I'd imagine the wobbly flight is due to the plastic sabot... Maybe try aluminum? I bet with a stronger sabot they would fly dead straight because they stabilized themselves VERY nicely!!

Have you thought of slightly coning the nose of those flat-faced rounds? Perhaps a cone with a height of only a couple millimeters. Would that improve aerodynamics and damage?

Shame all the other rounds didn't perform well. Guess thats all part of the process though. After all, I'm sure you didn't expect their tests to all be successful anyway ;)

This was the first batch, illustrated at the beginning of the video.

I think I'm going to have to get me a shotgun soon. Her in 'murica, that's just a short drive down the road.

'MURICA!!!

The ones they likened to a "Fostner" round were awesome! I'd imagine the wobbly flight is due to the plastic sabot... Maybe try aluminum? I bet with a stronger sabot they would fly dead straight because they stabilized themselves VERY nicely!!

The wobbly flight is "normal" in the sense that yaw is a factor of projectile flight. This is where the centre of pressure and centre of gravity comes in. The projectile tries to tip forward because the CG is towards the front, but since the CP is towards the rear, the air drag corrects it..

Have you thought of slightly coning the nose of those flat-faced rounds? Perhaps a cone with a height of only a couple millimeters. Would that improve aerodynamics and damage?

What I will be trying is making them subcaliber with aluminium tails, made some rounds already and will post pictures when I get home.

Shame all the other rounds didn't perform well. Guess thats all part of the process though. After all, I'm sure you didn't expect their tests to all be successful anyway

These were just the first of many, and it seems to have generated quite a lot of interest on youtube so I will be sending a fourth package soon :)

I should try my hand at a few such round, I've got access to a lot of beater shotguns, so bulging a barrel is no problem really, they're around $15-25 for a new barrel.

If you keep the projectile weight roughly the same as the original shot or slug load and keep the diameter sensible, there's no reason why the barrel should be damaged.

Btw you should check out this channel if you haven't already: http://www.youtube.com/user/FPSoutback?feature=watch

Big fan of FPSoutback, he does some good wrk

And Jack, $15 shotgun barrels

It's strange, I think your projectiles would fit down a 3/4" pipe

Bullet proof gummibears :D an on another note, jsr your rounds are geting better, maby you should start making somthing like the foster slug but with your pointy rounds. Also you should try to make a new lead round and have some bb in side of it in a mushroom arrangment and if you can defeat the plate you should give your idea to the millitary.

Inspired by the feedback from the first video, I'm preparing a fourth package for taofledermaus. Here's a preview of some of the rounds, all with HSS blank cores ground to a point, two of them with spiral fins in order to induce spin.

How did you mill the spiral fins? Ball end mill and rotating table?
