I have taken that course, well actully skimed though it and I know what primer does, but if the cement primes/helps fuse the joints can I at least establish that adding priming doesn't matter that much?

Using primer is very important, using primer PROPERLY is even more so. If you let the primer evaporate before applying the cement, you will have a weak joint. Primer softens the pipe to allow the solvent in the cement to more easily penetrate it, allowing the polymers to intertwine more effectively.

I see I geuss your right, but is it nessesary to blot on as much primer like the course says untill it looks like leaking eeewww from the joint?
And just asking does anyone know which ingredient in the primer in softening the pipe before it evaporates, would it happen to be acetone? cause that would be nice

I'm just curious for any loop holes

Yes, you must apply several coats of primer to allow the solvent to penetrate the pipe before it evaporates.

All of the ingredients (minus the dye) are capable of dissolving the pipe, and are thus all important. Dont skimp, just buy the primer and use it properly. A single can will last for years.

My local irrigation store sells 1 gallon cans, and I doubt even those would last for years. That being said, this isn't the place to cut corners. Save your allowance for a couple of weeks, then gather up the $2.49 and grab a can at Home Depot.

Well, I guess it depends on the size/quantity of pipe and fittings you are solvent welding. I dont build too many PVC guns, so I dont go through it very quickly.
