ABS pipe

Unread postAuthor: sandman » Tue Mar 20, 2007 8:58 pm

ok, first off id like to say hello
and now for the problem,
i plan starting my first cannon, i finished all the spects, and then looked for materials, and learned ABS pressure is non-existent in the US
but found some in UK, cost quite a bit.

i was wondering if anyone else needed ABS pressure rated pipe, because i can only buy 6m lengths, i need a meter at most, so to offset the cost of me buying an expensive pipe i could sell extras to other people looking for extra safety

Because if its pressure rated stuff, that can hold pressure you can use it in a pneumatic, its very light and it rips open instead of grenading like PVC.
Also its already black :P

(im probably going to be yelled at for this) i use NSF-DWV pipe for my combustions. They all have a pressure rating on the side of AT LEAST 150, and a combustion cannon will only generate 50 PSI AT MOST. So if you're looking for something cheap, use PVC. It won't rupture like a glass tube. I've been using it for years for all my combustions and it works fine. Just remember to always be safe.

I had a couple of failure with PVC and neither time did it explode in the advertised rain of shards looking for flesh. The one time the end cap and pipe it was attached to just shot off into my arm and the other time a elbow just cracked and then shot across the garage. Maybe I am just lucky?

i did the calculations on the pressure in my compustion chamber, and it came to 191 psi and i know pvc will be ok for the first version but i plan to upgrade the cannon as time progresses and it will get more powerful

A combustion getting up to 191 psi? I think you may have messed up your numbers somewhere along the line there....
