Potatoes wo rk pretty good (just kidding) I found some cat balls ( cat toys) that fit right in the barrel perfectly at the dollar store. there about 4 for a dollar. They are light and float down slowly so the neighborhood kids catch them. Plastic medicine cups .the clear ones , a little larger than nyquil cups fit in the end of the barrel and make a tight seall. I have aslo shot some of those short fat candles but they get kind of expensive.

NOTE FROM PIMPMANN22: The contents of this post have been deleted due to the following rules. Rules can be found HERE.

8 ) DISCUSSION ABOUT EXPLOSIVES AND/OR SOLID PROPELANTS AS WELL AS POSTS RELATING TO SHOOTING ANYTHING AT A HUMAN AND/OR ANIMAL TARGET WILL RESULT IN A PERMANANT BANNING OF YOUR ACCOUNT! The only time you may discuss shooting other people would be in the case of talking about an approved paintball marker or airsoft gun. (Notice this is in BOLD letters)

12 ) Please no discussions of building/launching incenrary rounds (ammo on fire), fueled rocket type devices (that are to be shot from a cannon), combusting ammo (ammo that blows up/burns) or any sort of "smoke bombs" or similar devices. This is because the legal definition by the ATF states that as soon as you shoot something that is on fire out of a cannon, it's a destructive device.

Speaking of the ammo list, might it be better if we subdevided it into the varius projectile diameters - a list for 1", 1.24", and so on?
Anyway, I ran around the house with my ammo gauge to find a suitable projectile:
Tea candles (the short, wide things with a metal casing), the larger spools of thread (without thread), mini axe cans, certain small plastic bottles (no, not only Rx - pool chems too), 25 ml elmyer flasks (lol).
Bah, I'm done looking.

1.5" pvc? golf balls are the way to go man, the dimples make them aerodynamic and fly somewhat straight. If an old dude can drive one 300 yards with a club a proper spud gun should launch one out of sight (500 yards maybe?)

I've heard somewhere (can't quite recall where) that placing a railroad spike into a potato and just launching that makes for one hell of a shot...

I intened to try this soon, so if anyone here sees any glaring problems with this type of ammunition, warn me, eh?

If you try the railroad spike idea, make sure you have it seated in the center of the potato, and the spike isn't touching the barrel at all. I don't think its likely, but if the railroad spike got a bit sideways and caught inside the barrel, that could be a problem. Having said that, I launch spuds with big nails through them into trees all the time. If you get the angle right, they'll stick in trees.

Milk jug caps make perfect sabots for 1.5" barrels.

Take a cardboard paper towel tube. Fold a paper towel lengthwise until its about 2" tall and then wrap it around the base of the tube (for wadding) and put some tape on it to keep it there. Then, tape the bottom of the tube shut, and fill it with anything you have handy. Rocks, flower, jello, your little sister's barbie dolls, etc... and launch.

I'm going to try making slugs out of plaster of paris. I'll just pour the plaster into a 4-6" long piece of barrel-size pipe and let it dry overnight. Should be a cheap, effective projectile. Using a mold like that you can make slugs out of ice, jello, etc...

Peace,
Pete Zaria.

Golf balls don't fit in Sch40. They fit in SDR 21 1.5" Pipe, sleeved inside of Sch80 2"pipe.

In my experience with plaster in pipes, it tends to get stuck. Like serious have-to-chip-it-out-with-chisle stuck.

...of course, that may have just been a symptom of my impaitence - I'v heard that plaster swells, then shrinks, and I only waited a little while for it to cure.

Line the inside of the pipe with foil or clingwrap. Problem solved :)

Peace,
Pete Zaria.
