The Fuzz Sucks

Unread postAuthor: CannonCreator » Mon Aug 27, 2007 8:29 pm

Well today at 9 in the morning, me and 2 other buddies of mine, went out to go down to the hills to shoot our pellet/BB guns. We wound up try to shot some vultures, but we didn't hit any of them. We started to walk right out from the hills to my friends house that was 1 house down from the hills. And all of our gun cases were in the garage there. And before we know it a COP rolls down the street, we keep walking without looking at him trying to keep our cool, and he comes to a screaching halt, jumps out of the car, and YELLS out loud, "Come Over Here!!!!" We dropped our guns in the grass so he didn't tell us to drop them on the street. We go up to him, and he says "Why were you guys trying to run?"..... A long sinlence, I finally said "We weren't running". He asks "What are Those on the grass?", We all answer " BB guns", And he Tells us to bring them over. We all go to the grass and pick up our guns, walk back to the car. First he asks my buddy on the right of me to give him his gun. He hands the COP his gun. "AAA... Thats a nice Daisy... Classic", He asks for my gun, I hand it to him, He asks "What does this shoot", I answer "Pellets, and BB's. He asks "What Brand is this?", I answer "Crossman". Then Finally he asks for my other buddies gun on the left, He hands it to him in the rifle Bag, The cop carrfely, and very slowly unzips it, checking every aspect on the bag. FINALLY! He gets the gun out, and starts fiddiling with it. He asks" What kind of gun is this?", Friend answers "Pellet gun", COP asks "How do you load it?", I show him the break barrel method and the COP trys to shoot it, but fialed to take the saftey off, and In Ambarisment, sets it down in the trunk. Then with the other guns he actually FIRES them a couple times each right there in the middle of the street. Then he goes back over to the rifle bag, and starts checking for more things, He pulls out pellets, more pellets, Then finally the PVC silencer we made that is like 15" long with tape on the front instead of a endcap, I mean Thats all it was, a long peice of PVC, painters tape on the end, and A hole in the front so it will slip around the sight on the end of the barrel. The COP asks "Is this a Silencer?", Buddy replies "YES". The COP tells us he can send us to federal prison for owning a silencer.

Finally my friends MOM comes out and the sop gives her the guns, and tells her to tell all our parents what happend. Basically we got in trouble for carrying BB guns. The COP was about to confiscate them, but my friends mom took them. And It got me thinking if I got caught with a cannon I put work into, and got confiscated.

I hope everyone out there is carfull, about this becuase, I would HATE to see a nice cannon to get confiscated, for carrying it to the hills by your house to shoot SAFELY.

I HATE the fuzz, and without guns, or cannons, people like us would feel like there is nothing to do, our have fun with. My message is, Be carefull, don't hurt people with guns, Don't let the COPS confiscate your guns, and most important, NEVER GIVE UP! BB guns, pellet guns, Potato cannons, airsoft, they don't belong at the range. The range is for REAL guns. So even though the cops might not like it KEEP DOING IT! as long as your not hurt anyone else, and were your shooting is open, and safe, and not were you can hit a car, person, or house(on accident).

KEEP doing what you LOVE, no matter what the cops think about it, just keep it safe.

Yeah, even though he had a point about the silencer, I still don't like cops.

I thought a silencer was only illegal for an actual firearm, not a recreational device such as a bb gun.

I wouldn't have said they're the same thing:

You could just be grateful he didn't take your silencer - I mean they're illegal aren't they?

Hate is an extremly strong word, police are here to protect you. I do agree that they are way to strict about guns and spud accelerators, however I respect what they are trying to do.

You should have replied that it was a muzzle break, and that you and your buddies were seeing if it would improve the gun's performance. :P

True, but because of the size of the silencer, it could be used to silence a
.17 HMR round. as defined by federal law, any device capable of silencing a firearm, even by one dB, is classified as a silencer.

i dont think he could have really got you in trouble because he has no right to shoot your gun, especially in the middle of the street and ignoring his training.

think about it, what he going to say "i was shooting their air gun's and i found a silencer as i was getting more ammo". sereiously, he would have lost his job for that.

The silencer wasn't an issue.I ran into this problem when I built a few for my paintball guns. The only time it's a problem is when they are built for use on an actual "firearm". BB guns are air powered not solid propellant. But it does largely depend on the state you live in and what the county cops can get away with.

What you have here is a BAD COP. Shooting the guns near houses? Even though your silencer is TECHNICALLY illegal, no decent cop would get you in trouble for it, as it is home made, and wouldn't work on a real gun for a second. (Trust me here, my father is a VERY well respected cop). You didn't give him any crap, so the only reason I can think of for his actions are anal-retentiveness about the law (The letter of the law, not the spirit), inexperience (SHOOTING THE GUNS???!!!), or just being a prick in general.

I REALLY feel for you, man! :(

Ya, I live in Southern California. I have had COPS been completely cool about them before, But I mean I used to really think well of COPS, But after this one it just kinda pissed me off.

In the past we have been stopped by the COPS, and he just made sure we were sooting in a safe area, which is completely 100% fine with me, and he told us to have fun, and don't shoot near the street.

I still have a high respect for COPS, but this was just a BAD experience.

The shooting of animals is beyond the scope of this forum, read the rules.

For a better understanding of the legal position of airgun silencers in the US, have a read through here.

Could be worse. You could live here in Australia. The safest place to shoot any firearm is on a property WAY out of town

Your an idiot.
A complete and total idiot.
You obviously have no idea what the police are for?
The cop was doing his job, and he wasn't even strict, he still has the guns right? He didn't confiscate the silencer and have the kid put away.

He got away clean, no harm done.
I'm sick and tired of all these people have a lack of understanding of a Police officers duties, and who throw a hissy fit whenever a cop even looks at them wrong.

I mean come on, was any harm done?
Did the cop shoot at a house?
If he followed standard procedures, he would have taken the guns and the silencer, yet he didn't.

Frank, you need to cool off. First of all, I'm sure you meant to write "you're" at the beginning of your post. Did the cop shoot at a house? Maybe not, but if the cop was able to shoot the gun, that means the safety was disabled by either Cannon Creator, his buddies, or the cop. If the safety was off, the gun could have misfired, and possibly hit a house, among other things. If the cop felt the need to shoot the gun, he should have done so at a shooting range, where the chances of hitting a house or person are slim. While I agree that the silencer is indeed illegal, and the cop would have been certainly right to confiscate it, I think that he was a little excessive in his actions. It was obvious that the silencer was nothing more than a piece of plastic pipe. Again, my father is a Policeman, and a very well respected one, at that. Had he been the one to deal with this incident, he would have merely thanked Cannon Creator and his friends for their honesty, and given them a stern warning about possession of the silencer, and whatever gun-toting laws and such that they may have violated, however insignificantly. Was any harm done? No more harm than was done by Cannon Creator's possession of a homemade plastic silencer.

One more thing: It's usually a good idea to check your spelling and grammar before you call someone an idiot. I honestly used to like you, with relation to this website. However, in this case, you have demonstrated a severe lack of rationality. Do not insult me again, or I will be force to contact the moderators and let them handle this. It's a shame. I though you were nice, until now.
