It think I want to order a Finnish blade in a while :D

I want a design a bit like a leuku.

Made a quick sketch;

A laminated blade is outside my budget. Will a non-laminated blade as in the drawing be strong enough to withstand light wood chopping?

Can you make a price indication? :)

yes, it will hadle it, cause Leuku is ment for it

I would make it from 5160 springsteel, but, for chopping yms it needs to have atleast 6mm of thickness, to have heft and streng in it.

i would say hmmm.. 40euros is pretty close :)

EDIT: how wide is that blade? i would say 30-35mm...

6 mm is no problem at all, I like thick knives.
I love 5160 steel. To what hardness will you harden it? can you do differential hardening?

I think 40 euros is a very nice price for a custom blade. Do you have autocad, so I can send you a more detailed design? otherwise i'll just draw it on paper and scan it.

It's better to spend my money on a blade than on beer :D

Yeah, i have autocad, sen dme a photo. i want you to know, when making blades by hand, they look always a bit different than the desing. keep that in mind

lab: i ALWAYS do differential hardening, JSRs dagger blade was the first that wasnt differential hardened. im thinking about 55-57 HRC for leuku blade, cause it has to whitstand some impacts. For leuku blade the thick blade allows me to make pretty high grind angles so its tough

I think around 25 mm would be nice.

No problem, as long as they look nice i'm happy :D

I think it can be a bit harder, i'm not going to use it as a machete. Just some cutting work, and chopping <5 cm branches without too much force.
Do your blades have a hamon line? I like them

I have some problems with mommy about buying "another" knive. (last one was about 5 months ago ) so it might have to wait until I convinced her :D

I'll send you an autocad drawing soon. You can find it in the inbox of the mail you use for spudfiles.

allright, well you just want a big puukko thats no problem :D. No, by blades doesnt have hamon line, cause i dont etch them, i just sand them with worn out 180 belt and buff, they come very sharp and shiny

Fantastic, it must be really satisfying hammering round bar into a blade!

Some day we need footage of the sparks flying though :)
