well when you building a hybrid the size of a tractor trailer with a 19" bore prices tend to go up pretty fast

Not quite rated at what you are looking for (as far as I can tell), but there is a company making 6" piston valves. http://www.martin-eng.com/products/big- ... air-cannon

Clide;

Rather interesting construction when you look at the parts pictorial.
Definitely "food for thought" for a piston valve design!

These may very well be the ones d_hall has in mind. Maybe he will give us a clue.

Just a quick note, Martin has tried to distance themselves from the spudding side of things and would prefer us to not link to there products and site.

Nice guys, but they are trying to stay industrial and away from the plastic valve manufactures.

If they have a problem with people linking to their site, they did the wrong thing by putting it on the internet...

They are priced for the industry. It is a heavy duty item. D hall is the only one here with a budget for them. The rest of us are not potential customers.

They don't publish their prices and don't prefer to answer a lot of price requests from people who find their product a couple orders of magnitude out of their price range.

They don't cater to the hobbyist market. Please don't disturb them.

@ tech
well even industrial spool valves cost quite a lot

they must have got lots of emails from people who though that they can get it for 200$ or so :wink: and I can understand that it might be annoying

but IMHO when they say that they want to 'distance themselves from spudding kind of things' they make themselves seem less professional

in fact, it's a kind of tell tale sign that they are not professional and should be avoided...

one day I found a new shop selling pneumatic stuff in a town nearby (just for clarification... it wasn't and isn't just a shop selling regs, compressors, blowguns and some other basic stuff... they really do have full selection and some really rare valves too)
I entered the shop and asked a simple question:

-> do you have quick exhaust valves?
= uhmm what?
-> well, it's a valve... commonly used for venting single acting air cylinders
= uhmmm... errrrr.... (his face expression then was simply priceless :) )
-> hmm...
= uhmmmm..... you know what... I've got a catalogue somewhere here and there are some valves in it :wink:

lol how lame you have too be to work in a shop selling pneumatic stuff and don't know what a QEV is ? the guy didn't really seem do be interested in selling me anything... in fact, he wanted to get rid of me ASAP

If it hadn't been for that guy and his attitude I would have been visiting the shop regularly.. I suspect that I would have already spent at least 250$ there...
and it's not that they handle large orders only.. most of their customers normally visit the shop to buy 10 to 20 meters of tubing or 5 QC fittings and that's it...

the guy doesn't work there any more and the new ones really treat you the way they should... it even seems that it works for them better because I noticed that there are more people visiting them now

similarly, there was a shop in kalisz.. I used to buy some fittings there but they were exactly like the one I mentioned before... to make things easier for them I use to write down catalogue numbers of the parts I wanted to order. But despite that they managed to fu## ## something from time to time

I visited the place a few weeks ago and.... surprise surprise they went bankrupt :wink:

If they are so tired of answering price quotes then they should publish their prices, or at least an order of magnitude of their prices.

It also seems silly they would not want links to their products. I'm sure people in industry use Google. Even if hobbyists can't afford their valves, links and discussion about their product from anyone will improve everybody's ability to find their product.

Anyway, they did publish their prices at one point, so thanks to the wonder of the interweb here were their prices way back in 2003:
Cannon price varies with chamber size
2" valve ~$1000
2" cannon ~$1500-1600
4" valve ~$1400
4" cannon ~$2100-3500
6" valve ~$2500
6" cannon ~$3500-4400

Also here is their design. http://www.google.com/patents?id=8-gXAAAAEBAJ

@clide
that's exactly what I meant...

ohh and the first thing that strikes me when I hear about all those 'we want stay away from being perceived as a shop for spudders' thing ->
if they were really so professional and competent they wouldn't try so hard to be perceived as such, don't you think?

hmmm I've just found something... it seems that the company where that that rude guy used to work is looking for sales representative... hmmmm that would be soo cool

Irritrol Valves - #100 in 2" & 3"

Unread postAuthor: FireFly » Thu Sep 03, 2009 7:27 pm

I saw that there are two dozen new Irritrol #100 valves in 2" (sixteen) and 3" (eight) up for sale soon at a surplus auction and was wondering whether there might be enough interest to get into a group buy situation here.

Any takers here on this thread?

Throw me a bone - its my first post since 2007!
