Fantastic accuracy for a slingshot, nicely done!

How about going for longer distances? The trajectory will certainly be a bit mortar-like but the heavy projectiles should not lose much velocity over say 50 metres and are definitely much less susceptible to wind drift than air rifle projectiles, so with correct sight adjustment it should retain its accuracy.

Have tested 35 meters, that is about what I can do in my garden.

Accuracy and power is good enough for rabbit or pheasant hunting.

For these kind of distances, I would probably use a little heavier bands.

There is a bit of dropping, but it is true that wind isn't much of a problem.

Of course my 1000 Euro Weihrauch HW 100 will be more precise (mostly due to the lighter trigger), but my homemade little slingshot rifle (parts cost less than 50 Euros) has a lot more power, and is accurate enough. And legal to shoot in my garden.

If the ballistic gelatin tests are anything to go by, it's probably good for a little bigger than that ;)

Of course a commercially made air rifle is bound to be more accurate (I know ;D) but that's firing rifled projectiles at higher velocities with correspondingly flatter trajectories, so it would be unfair to compare it to the slingshot.

Have enhanced the loading speed today.

Like with common slingshots, you spend some time getting the bands straight so you can shoot again.

This is a bit worse on the crossbow as the bands sometimes entangle themselfs around the "barrel".

So I attached a very weak, single strand of Thera tan to the pouch, and attached the other side on the scope mount. This is so weak that you do not even notice any resistance when drawing out. But it manages to "catch" the bands, so that your are ready for ultra fast reloading.

The "catch" happens too fast for the human eye to see, so I used the 1200 fps cam.

Astounding how far the bands still fly out! Then the thin band catches it and it swings back and forth four times, slowly easing down.

Works great! Chrony can't detect any slowdown, and the shots are still very accurate (no change).

Hey Joerg;

I'm building a slingshot for dad (for the purposes of casting fishing lines). He can cast a rod well, however after extended periods he ends up with back pain (after a back injury a few years ago).

So, as a birthday gift I'm building him a slingshot. It will be self centering, with bearings in a wye setup. The handle and clamps to attach bands will be made of stainless steel, and the rest will be made of a mild steel which will be polished and gun blued. It will be configured in a "Y" as I think he will be wary to shoot a "W" configured slingshot.

Can you comment on using a slingshot to cast a fishing line? Medium sized mulie baits.

You seemed like the person to ask, so thanks.

Have found a simple, yet effective way to reduce the dreaded handlslapping. I simply use a really weak, thin rubber strip (single strand of Thera Tube Tan), tied around my wrist, and attached to the pouch.

This means you loose a tiny bit of power, but it is not measurable.

It really works!

Here is the video:

Greetings

Jörg

PS: I have never used a slingshot for fishing, I guess I can't help you. Let me know how it came out!

It was such a nice day, I decided to shoot with my crossbow some more.

Drove a 16 mm lead ball through 2 cat food cans and right into a third! All of them filled with water.

Used three Thera Gold strips per side, 50% stronger than hunterbands.

As announced some time ago, I have added another format to The Slingshot Channel.

From now on, I will pick about ten different, interesting new stories from the forums, and present them in a video.

Every community needs a newspaper, and this is my small contribution.

If you think I have missed anything (I am sure that is the case), let me know. Also, if you feel that you have seen something that MUST BE in the next issue, send me a message.

Best regards from Germany (currently a loud, drunk country, thanks to soccer).
