D_Hall: "Sir, permission to tour the USS Nevada tomorrow"

Supervisor: "Sure, sure, anything you want. Just please, please wear pants when you come to my office in future"

:D

(This is how jealousy manifests itself :?)

Enjoy contemplating Trident while wondering if it would fit in your massive hybrid :)

Do consider that the Trident launch tubes really are nothing more than hybrid guns.

edit: And the old Polaris system? They were just simple pneumatics.

Dave

Quick question ... from "click to bang" (ignition to round leaving the muzzle) how long does the "gun'o-god" take?

I don't really know, but I'd guess on the order of 1 second.

As I understand it, they were just ball valves with hydraulic actuators. Remember, we're talking HEAVY projectiles and low muzzle velocities. Valve speed isn't that critical. And just to make ya laugh... I was talking to a old timer who was on the Polaris boats. He mentioned that there were actually guys with sledge hammers down below. They would stand over the valve and if it didn't go the moment it was supposed to, they were to wack it open with the hammer. He says they never actually had to, but that was the back up plan.
