NOZ

Unread postAuthor: singularity » Fri Sep 01, 2006 11:21 pm

i have a go-kart its a million years old and only goes about 20mph (19.72 to be exact). i got it from my niegbors for free cause it was broken (the engine was dead) so i fixed it up, i got a new 3.5hp pump engine on it i replaced the drive wheel, brakes, ect. now i have seen a gas scooter with NOZ system on it (very simple bascically dumped a 9 gram no2 cartrige into the air intake) but i dont know if that will add any power or evan work with my go cart. so will it destroy the engine? does it evan have a chance of working?

NOS would eat a small engine like that, a little 3.5 blows pretty easy without any help.
the bright side is that they are easy to rebuild after you blow the valves out them.

If I were you I wouldn't try it.
These small motors are only Designed for use with petrol and not for things like this.
You can try it but don't expect your motor to last much longer  .

The NOS alone won't do anything but lean out the air/fuel mix. To have the NOS make any difference in power would have to inject extra fuel as well.

Also...

Small engines usually hold up very well to performance upgrades. Take lawn mower racing as a perfect example.

You could just go for a 6.5hp engine form briggs and straton.I have taken classes on it and I know it inside out. If had any questions on it I could help.

not if you inject after the carb, but if you inject it before the carb you will maket the fuel/air mix rich. because you are affecting the amount of air by mixing in nos which lessens the oxygen amount in the air

I don't think it would burn up, but It would not be smart to use it constant, but for bursts every couple minutes or every so often It would probably be OK.

Don't tell me I'm wrong, unless you know what you are talking about (Which you obviously DON'T)

NOS is not a fuel. It is an oxidizer, there for it can not make to mixture any richer. Adding NOS is just like adding a turbo charger, it effectively adds more air to the air/fuel mixture so the engine can burn more fuel, it's just like a hybrid spud gun. Injecting the NOS after the carb will have exactly the same effect as injecting it before the carb.

NOS without extra fuel will just lean the air/fuel mix and cause the engine to over-heat.

actually you might be right about if it makes it lean or rich but i do know on atv/dirtbike engines it does afect fuel/air mix if you inject it in the air box, but if you inject it after the carb it doesnt afect the fuel/air mix, i also read this in one of the resent QUAD magizine, and i am very much aware that nos is an oxidizer

I don't think you quite understand how NOS makes power.

NOS makes power by effecting the air/fuel mix. It's just like a spud gun, you can't just put more fuel into the chamber and get more power. That is why we make hybrid spud guns, hybrids use compressed air to add more oxygen so you can add more fuel. So adding more NOS leans out the air/fuel mix and leaves room to add more fuel (just like compressed air in a hybrid).

NOS is not a fuel, in fact NOS is not flammable. It can't make power by its self it's, the extra fuel that NOS allows you to add that makes power.

And dude, don't just say "I read it in a magazine" give my a link or at least a quote.

Just in case you don't believe me:
How NOS Works

nos is really 1 nitrogen atom and 2 oxygen atoms (NO2), where as the air we breatth (or the engine takes in) is only about 20% oxygen. the more oxygen you have the more intense of an explotion occurs, nos has more oxygen than air, so it makes the explostion more powerful giving the engine more power. nos alone is not flamable it is just an oxidizer which make the combustion more intense.

But you still have to have more fuel to make a larger explosion.

You can't just take a hybrid spud gun and put in 2 atmospheres of pressure and only 1X of fuel and expect a larger explosion.

If you don't add more fuel you won't get any performance increase. You'll just lean out the air/fuel mix just like adjusting the carb to let in less fuel and more air.

More fuel + More oxygen = More Power

nm, irwinner no crap i know this, i just looked at the website and they dont have that artical on there, carlbelcher i will get my mag an quote tomorrow cause im in west vergina in a hotel visiting "family" so i get the magizine outa the car tomorrow, but now that im thinking about it they mighta been talking about a efi atv, not a carborated atv, they werent specific, althou if it was after the airbox it wouldn't have the posibility to have any leak out of the air box like it would with it injected in the airbox
