making greatest airsoft gun (high-tech)

Unread postAuthor: iknowmy3tables » Wed Jan 31, 2007 3:29 pm

Recently I was thinking about making a super one-of-a-kind airsoft gun. Of course it would be a CO2 bbmg, only the twist is it will be very tactically efficient (not that it will be used for airsoft fights cause that would be bad)
It should have lasers, light, scopes, but the unique thing is… CAMERAS with mini LCD screens and with built in sights, integrated into a full paintball mask. In your face Israel and your Cornershot, you too FCS with your Land Warrior system.

There are some things that I’m not sure on
a) The camera system I want it to be light and be able to zoom on targets, what’s the best way to do this? Rip open a digital camera that has a built in screen? Use webcams attached to scopes? Get a mini cam with a TV style video port, and a portable TV?
b) This should work for both short and long range, so can if I invest is a good barrel, will my accuracy problems be solved, or should I add a integrated semi-auto system build from a dead AEG for long range, I don’t care I just thought up of that in case that was a problem, only I don’t know how to configure the two systems.

Interestingly enough I was already think one this for night time paintball.(there are ceretain web cameras that if they are modified just just a little they cam see infared and give very resolution after this mod.)
I am no electrictian how ever. and as a reasult I have not done much in this area.

well i guess web cams would be hard, since they attach to computers, may be if you found a mini monitor that conected to a usb, I don't know just take one apart and see if anything can be done,
but, i found some stuff in my house that I can use, and most of the eletrictian work should just be extending wires, and unscrewing then moving exsiting circuit boards.

Here’s my two cents:

First off, most digital video cameras can be modified for night vision. All you do is take apart the lens there should be this little square piece of Plexiglas with a rainbow tint, take that out, now put it all back to gather and add a few IR LEDs and your cherry. I took my china-cheapo digital camera did said modification, and with the light from a TV remote I could take pictures in pitch-black, that is if the dumb thing still worked. Note: the modification had nothing to do with the fact it doesn’t work, I stepped on it…

Now as for you “tactical Co2 airsoft BBMG”, why bother with all the fancy crap, first off all the “tactical gear” won’t help you shoot strait, all the crap hanging off your gun’s just going to get in the way, the wires will get snagged on brush, your “camera sight” is just going to get banged up. I used to think that if I used all the tactical gear I could, it would give me the edge I needed to win, I was going to get a red-dot scope, laser sight, flashlight, and even make a camera sight, I had it all planed out, then I saw a gun just like the one I wanted and realized that all that tactical gear’s just going to be in the way, so now I want a six shot paintball rifle with iron sights, big change but my point is the later will be more useful as it, in theory, would be significantly more accurate, there for, provided you do you part, you don’t waste ammo. Sounds like I’m getting off subject, right? Wrong, my point is, instead of wasting all this time and money on a “tactical airsoft vortex BBMG” make an ultra accurate airsoft gun, then with what money you have left get a good scope, don’t go overboard with the scope you’re not going to need a 9x12x40mm, just something big enough to see what you’re shooting at. Look it to rifling, or the “hop-up system” if you can make the tactical gear for a BBMG, there’s no reason you couldn’t make an ultra accurate airsoft gun. Or make a trench broom…

judgment_arms you make alot of sense, you sound like a military vet, I forgot about the solider's favorite stat, reliablity, which usally requires simplicity. I'm gonna try that semiauto aeg mod Idea I had only as clean as posible, still a light co2 system, and maybe just maybe an under barrel trench sweeper/ light bbmg. that video camera with the high zoom could remain one piece, and used as a spotting scope

although I found almost all the parts I need for a camera system. so I guess that could make that into some novelty gun, like the Cornershot lame , Anyways thank you very much for the two cents

I’m no vet; I’ve just done LOTS of research. Semi-automatic is a little too complicated to make reliable with out a machine shop, plus you don’t need it. This is a little off subject but it’ll make things seem clearer: first came the muzzle loader, the Brown Bess, a smoothbore .75cal flintlock used as late as the American Revolution, at the same time they had rifles, highly accurate with incredible range, but the military didn’t like them as it took longer to load, to load the Brown Bess all you did was dump in the powder and the ball, the rifle needed to be rammed harder because it fit a LOT tighter. Then came the falling block Sharps and the bolt-action (I believe it was the lee-Enfield) the falling block was infinitely more accurate then the bolt action due to the fact the because the round was placed directly in the breach meaning the falling black could have a more refined breach because it didn’t need the extra ply in there to get the round in, but because the bolt action was a repeater it was adopted and put to use by the military. Then came the gas-operated semi/full -automatic guns which need even more ply in the breach because of how fast the rounds were chambered to small and it might jam. My point is, the single shot falling block from the eight teen hundreds has the possibility to be more accurate than any modern military sniper rifle. As Mr. Kalashnikov put it: all that is complex is not useful, all that is useful is simple. Now don’t get me wrong I’m not telling you to make a single-shot airsoft gun, just make your gun a simple as possible. I like the under barrel trench sweeper, my preference is a trench broom, more commonly referred to as a shotgun, sense an airsoft pellet is far from accurate, the more you got going down range the better, if you want I can give you LOTS of information on how to make a shotgun, or if you want the best thing for airsoft, I’ll tell you how to make a trench broom.
As a some what random side note: if I were to ever be in a combat situation I’d rather have a Marlin model 1894 cowboy (a lever action rifle) in .45colt (.45longcolt/.45-40) then an AR15/M16a2. due to the fact that as long as there’s rounds in the chamber and you can throw the lever, the lever gun will shoot, but the AR15 needs a “forward bolt assist” because it jams so much, plus I prefer more bullet than more bang.
Random fact: the .45colt (also known as the .45 long colt) is more powerful in it original black powder load, which is 40grains of powder and a 255grain bullet, than it’s modern smokeless powder equivalent, the black powder shoots the same bullet with as much as a 200fps gain.

I know about the simple=reliable, infact I know about every gun you just mentioned, but for the semi auto I'm thinking about uses the actual pistons and mag and revicer, only the springs are removed, and the back part of the piston is glued in place, and has a hole in it it let gas though which is attached thoungh the back of it, and the front piston has a light retun spring and when air goes in the front piston flys forward while loading a pellet and shotting it (alot like the pneumatic semi auto bolt systems you find on this website), really its more like an AEG mod to make it use gas rather than gears and motor. I couldn't make a decent system from scratch

i too have fantasized about such gadgetry. out of pure boredom, i made a camera mount on my classic army for youtube videos. meh, close enough.

I’d rather have a Marlin model 1894 cowboy (a lever action rifle) in .45colt (.45longcolt/.45-40) then an AR15/M16a2. due to the fact that as long as there’s rounds in the chamber and you can throw the lever, the lever gun will shoot, but the AR15 needs a “forward bolt assist” because it jams so much, plus I prefer more bullet than more bang.

thats where the g3 comes in
