Button-Activated Slug Thrower/Advanced Re-Design

I recycled a few things from my SpudRifle BV gun. The Barrel, BV, and a few fittings and brass nipples. I also used the push-button valve from my little spare-parts mini-pneu.

The tank, most of the brass, and the 1/2" aluminum QEV are new.

It's a pretty basic QEV muzzle loader, with an added BV on the barrel to serve as a safety. The tank is 2" PVC, and the pipe and fitting are all sch80 NSF-PW, except for the 1"x1/2"NPT bushing, which is NSF-81, whatever the heck that means.

THE BELL REDUCER IS SCH80 NSF-PW AS WELL.

The push-button valve is fitted for 1/8"NPT, and is rated for 300psi, or about 20.6 bar. The fill is from a Schrader valve on the right side of the T on the back of the QEV. I'm going to be adding one more safety feature when I get it in the mail, a small valve to isolate the Schrader valve, so it can't pilot the QEV while attaching or detaching. I also plan on adding an external bolt by the simple expedient of sliding a 1/2" repair coupling over a slot cut in the barrel.

Also, several other barrels will be added, including a .50cal blowgun for darts and paintballs, and a 10'x1/2" barrel for a try at blowing through a 2x4.

Putting this thing together was an education. After I finished assembly, I pressure tested it, and it was leaking like a sieve. Submersion showed huge leaks at ever joint! So, I had to completely disassemble it and re-wrap the teflon on every joint. What a PITA.

Anyway, pics now, damage vids tomorrow night.

The B.A.S.T.A.R.D., my new 260psi floor pump, and my little buddy Rover.

The push-button trigger, fill, and BV safety. With the BV closed, the QEV can pilot, and the piston will slap back, but nothing, nada, will flow down the barrel. I'll be adding a spring in the QEV to reset the piston if it pilots with the safety on. The black between the T and the tank is electric tape. The pipe there got some sharp edges from the pipe wrench, so I wrapped it.

A decent cannon in both design and construction...I think you were pressing a little to fit that name together. ... Words mean things you know....are you sure you really want to name it that after all the effort you put in to it?

In any case, sweet cannon and cool cat!!

Ah, looking a lot better than your first efforts :) should be capable of very good performance, looking forward to the damage shots :D

I also used the push-button valve
where do you get these things I haven't seen them anywhere??

nice gun
of course you could scrap that PVC and make it all metal so that you could up the presssure a little bit... it's just a suggestion

You might have missed my repeater efforts, but putting a spring behind your piston is a waste if you don;t also drill a tiny equilising hole through the edge ( outside of the seat area!!)

This will make it close when the trigger is released, trapping the rest of previously wasted air inside the chamber.

This is a very easy mod, but it will make your cannon capable of multiple shots, and the shots themselves will be quieter because the chamber doesn't empty after the ammo has long left the barrel.

You'll up efficienty without sacrificing results..

Very well built cannon by the way!

VERY forced acronym there. If you wanted to call it Bastard, just call it Bastard, you don't need to try and justify it with an acronym. If anyone asks you why, and you really need to justify it, try one of these:

- "Because I can"
- "I wasn't married to it's mother"
- "It was a right bastard to put together"
- "Bugger off, I can call it what I like."

Other than that, great looking cannon though.

i can't quite put my finger on it, but your cannon doesn't look quite right :P maybe its because i have a copper fetish?

you should really replace the chamber with some copper and take full advantage of your 260psi pump

Cool Cannon.

I would replace the lower tank with something that can take more pressure, but thats just me.

Looks nice. And whered you get that push-button valve?

The barrel looks a little curved up away from the chamber maybe you should cut a little off the tee? Great job I wan't it. Maybe you should make it a repeating bolt action?

You can tell how awesome a cannon is by the pressure used.

A copper fetish certainly sounds like a less sticky option :p

That looks pretty damn good. Cat looks scared of it, at least.

Also, why is there a door floating in front of your wall?

I did not mention a copper chamber for one reason: the push button valve.

at 260 psi it will be a bee-itch to push open.

I might have advised him to drop the valve and go for a blowgun, because of the awkward position alone.

but that way it would become just like any regular old copper QEV cannon..

Wich have served us well nevertheless..

Where does the pipe coming from the bottom T lead?
A buttplate perhaps?

Yeah, I guess I did kinda push for the acronym. Meh, screw it.

That is indeed the plan. I'm gonna pick up some casting resin and mold the butt from a .22 rifle. Also, I had the button up to 300psi on my spare parts mini-pneu, and it's not much harder than the stiff trigger on my Brother's Mosin-Nagant rifle. The position also isn't as awkward as it looks. If I grip it by the pipe under the QEV, my trigger finger rests naturally enough on the button.

Not thinking of tackling a repeater yet, but I do have an idea for a very nice magazine/bolt design that will go forward when I have the material.

The barrel IS slightly curved up. I intend to shave the T to let it rest naturally today. I just need a file I don't have here, but I'm going to the parents' for the damage vids today.

I got the PB valve from http://www.mcmaster.com, catalog number 6790T42.

As for the PVC tank and higher pressures...
