High pressure gun --> silencer video update

Unread postAuthor: MRR » Sat May 02, 2009 10:54 am

I bought a new bike pump today that is "rated" to 230psi :twisted:
It's called "SKS Race Compressor"

Image

So I felt impelled to build a new high pressure gun. :D

Some data:
Barrel sealing piston valve (15mm porting).
Piston: hot glue body on a bolt
Chamber: 1" x 20cm
Barrel: 82cm x 15mm
Pilot valve: modified blowgun (doubled flow)

Image

Image

Simple breach load.
Image

It's all metal but not too heavy.
Image

I made this adapter because I'm to lazy to change between quickconnect and shrader all the time.
Image

The performance seems to be quite good but I couldn't go outside and make real tests. All my neighbors seem to be in their gardens at this sunny weather.

The package says 230psi, the pressure gauge goes to 245psi and these pumps can always be pushed a little bit more. So 260 is a good number for this pump as well.

@ ALI
Always eat you cereals in the morning :D .

ps: I weigh 155lbs and have no trouble pumping to 230psi

That's a damn nice gun! I've been wanting to make something like this over the summer (learned a lot from your piston videos).

Now let's see some damage!

Really smart, tough looking gun. I like the simple breach loader and indeed the whole materials use here. What are you using for ammo?

Dude that whole setup is just clean and sweet! I officially have a thing for bike pumps now. I like that one you have. I bet the gun shoots pretty hard. For the breech load, do they make mini cam locks? That would be way too cool. Hopefully you can make some pics and video.
It also looks like that gun just might make a really killer hybrid as well.

I was inspired by a video about silencer that jsr posted in the How-To section. The silencer that I came up with works better than expected.

This is the new look of the gun.
Image

The silencer is a full metal construction, made of 2mm aluminium tubing, 2 brass fittings (fit perfect) and filled with steel wool with foam as spacers (this swimming noodle stuff with a hole in the middle). The barrel itself is perforated.
Image

@Starman
This is what I usually use as ammo...
Image

@c11man
I paid 40€ for it. I Think the pump is worth it.

@Moonbogg
What do you mean with cam locks? I couldn't find a definition for that.

now the gun looks more awsome than before!
sorry that i dont know but about how much is that is USD?
also it looks like you reduce into the tee below the valve then enlarge back to the valve tee. if this is true you might be loosing some power with that.

40 € are 53 USD.

I don't think that I loose performance. All fittings that I use are 18mm I.D. and more, the barrels I.D. is 15mm.

uh its not very expensive then. i might need one!

i the pic it looked about the same but i didnt know what size it was. anyway a larger fitting would increase flow slightly but not much so its not worth changing.

instead of the bike pump i might buy one of those air con compressors from ebay...
