2" Cartridge nerf rocket launcher

Unread postAuthor: Zorlord » Fri Aug 17, 2012 5:40 pm

Image
Dubbed the "LAWL"
Shoots nerf rockets using the PVC "cartridge" method, with a length of pvc capped with tape with a coupler over it. Powered by a co2 bike tire filler. shoots a nerf about 100 feet or so, which is fine for the purpose im using it for. paint job was rushed, and paracord will eventually be re-wrapped. This was a rush build, so it looks like crap, but it works and im happy with it.

any questions feel free to ask.

More valve detail? Is it for Nerf wars? How long does co2 cartridge last? I'm new to this system.

im using it for bunker-busting for airsoft. One co2 lasts about 4-6 shots, depending on the size of the cartridge i use.

essentially the cartridge is a 1/4 quick release coupled to a 6 inch section of 1 inch pipe. The end of the pipe is covered with 2 layers of shipping tape, then a coupler is forced ontop of the tape, securing it. pull the trigger, cartridge fills, tape bursts, and all the co2 shoots out, propelling the rocket. To reload, the barrel is removed at the coupler, cartridge is replaced, then barrel is slid back on.. I want to eventually make it breakbarrel/ sliding, but for now it will do.

EDIT: Ill take more pictures later.. Been working on this all day and im tired..

100 feet range is perfect for airsoft. Would like to see more detail on valve.

I agree, from your explanation, it doesn't seem to hard to build

I'm looking into making a bust disk cartridge gun, could you give me some guesstimated figures on number of shots, bursting pressure, and chamber volume?

Number of shots off of one cartridge ranges from 3-6. Bursting pressure is probably between 40-80 psi? I don't have any way to measure it, so this is just based off of the sources i used when making this cannon. Also, i've found that the most optimal cartridge length using 1 inch pipe is around 4 inches. I made 6 inch and 8 inch ones, and seeing minimal range increase from the 8 inch, i cut it in half. I used the 4 inch cartridge, and the range is essentially the same as the 6 inch one. Chamber volume is the volume of 4 inches of pvc plus maybe 4 or 5 inches of 1/4 inch brass pipe fittings. Also, the amount of barrel that the rocket actually travels down is maybe 4 inches or so.
