The "black death" pnuematic paintball gun

Unread postAuthor: SpudBlaster15 » Wed Jan 10, 2007 9:45 pm

Here is my first pnuematic gun. It has a 14" x 1.5" chamber, a 1" modded sprinkler valve, and a 4 foot long 1/2" SDR 21 barrel (for .68 paintballs). Oh, and it is the first gun I have painted.

how long is the barrel?

and you might want to sleeve it(the barrel) because sdr 21 pipe is thinner than normal pvc. if you sleeve it, it will be stronger, and therefore, safer.

The 4 foot barrel, though thinwall, is rated to 200psi, so it is very safe considering I wont be taking it past half that.

Yeah... GGDT is showing a muzzle velocity of 594fps with a paintball.

The barrel isnt floppy at all, when I hold the gun with one hand, the barrel remains straight.

I would estimate 550-650fps,
If you dont want to sleeve it just put a piece of long circular wood under the barrel and tape it to it,leave it over night and it straightens it out,I leave mine on 24/7 though, it makes aiming easier.

Edit:Woah I just realised he using 1.5" as the chamber dia....ill re-estimate my ggdt guess

Thats a cool gun but I suppose in my opinion that it could use a slighty larger chamber, maybe a 2", aside from tghat nice gun, now I want a marble gun:(

The C:B ratio is ~1.4:1. GGDT shows that doubling the chamber volume would produce a gain in velocity of ~40fps. A waste of air in my opinion. I aim for efficiency.

350-450 fps Crowley? That's what my Tippmann shoots. Homemade air cannons shoot SO much harder.
Spudblaster, don't worry about your barrel. It's thinwall, but it's fine. I've used it in coaxials before with no problem. Plus, the barrel of any pneumatic gun is at a pressure of 15 psi or less when firing.

Why did you drop your estimate by 150fps when you realized I was using a 1.5" chamber? With that chamber size, I have already hit the point of diminishing returns. If I were using 2" pipe instead, the muzzle velocity would only increase by ~40fps. A massive, oversized chamber does nothing but decrease efficiency.

My homemade paintball cannon can shoot at 810fps at 115 PSI. I think you could be getting more.

Those speeds are not possible with my barrel size. I would need a 6 foot long barrel and a 300 cubic inch chamber.
