Thank you :)

I'm glad its inspired so many spudgun builders, at the last count I know of 4 builds which are variants or just using parts of its design :D

YAY! I really love this gun. Mind if I use parts of your design for the new hunting rifle?

The compression fitting I use for breech loading off the QEV clamps the barrel very tightly just screwed down by hand. Its held sufficiently to lift the cannon by the barrel.

The barrel tees even though they're not fixed to anything, keep the barrel lined up with the rest of the cannon.

Yey! 360 posts!

@hotwired: That is a slightly odd way of doing it though. Is there any reason you did it like that?

Novacastrian: How about use whatever the heck you can get your hands on?
frankrede: Well then I guess it won't matter when you decide to drink bleach because your out of kool-aid.
...I'm sorry, but that made my year.

It was the way I connected the barrel on my very first cannon.

Since it worked and I saw no problems with it I carried it over to this design :)

The olive on the pipe has to be squashed slightly but not so it distorts the pipe, just so it has a reasonable grip. After that just screwing on the compression nut to hand tightness will hold it all quite well - I can't even twist the barrel in the fitting once its screwed down.

Since I make a point of keeping the barrel walls smooth and not using overtight ammo, very little forward force is actually put on the barrel and certainly not enough to yank it out of the compression fitting.

If I deliberately jammed the barrel or closed off the tip to a projectile then its possible that it could pull the barrel out with the sudden forward force directly applied to it. But I'd never risk it

This is an amazing gun. I love the full copper look, and much props on the design making it look cool and keeping it simple.

Oh my GOD that is such a bad a$$ gun!! I think that is the best spud gun I have ever seen.
How powerfull it it? You got a chrony to test it?

PS.
Could you please tell me where can I buy that kind of QEV, Ive looked on mcmaster.com and I couldnt find it.

No, no chrony but it's dam powerful :)

I'm currently using lead slugs and they can mushroom out on concrete @ 20m and still bounce off with enough force to bury themselves in the ground :P

I'm searching for someone in my town whos got a chronograph but its a bit difficult. I'm going to try a couple of rifle clubs next.

McMaster doesn't stock suitable QEVs in my opinion... I had a look at them once and they're all weird.

This is where mine was from: http://www.airlines-pneumatics.co.uk/webcat/Detprod.asp?ProductCode=S070139

But it's a UK company and I'm guessing you're US based. I'll have a look around for you.

They might not take too kindly to your design. A barreled launcher that's capable of exceeding 12 ft/lbs of muzzle energy is technically a firearm that requires a FAC. Posession of an illegal firearm technically means an automatic 5 year jail term.

I'm not likely to go up to the door with it and I do know enough gun law to not let too many people know of it.

There only seems to be one club anyway and its a university place which would probably mean too many questions.

I may just try an improvised chrony.

Nuff about that though. It's not high on my list of things to do.

After scouring the web I've found comparable QEV's for sale in the US:

http://airinc.thomasnet.com/viewitems/specialty-valves-acc-/super-quick-exhaust-valves (seems to be different models for different sizes)

http://airinc.thomasnet.com/viewitems/specialty-valves-acc-/pneutrol-quick-exhaust-valves (different manufacturer, same site)
