Both would kill the looks. What’s wrong with a plane old modded sprinkler valve?
Go with the second cannon I posted and shroud it with something to make it look right. I ain’t gonna give you step by step instructions, if you can’t figure it out than you don’t need one.

Update:

Ran into a slight problem. I bought a NERF Vortex Howler and it clocks in at a healthy 3.5 inch diameter, and just over a foot long.

Image

Either I got to source something smaller, or this project might turn into a good ol' RPG 7.

I was also sketching things up today, and I thought up a "Reverse Coaxil" the chamber is on the inside and only goes half way... and the barrel is on the outside, which extends past the chamber allowing for LARGER ammo to be used. I didn't figure out how the piston would be effected though.

Whatca all think?

RPG-7 sounds like it’ll be cool, and simple to make. But as for the NERF football thing, go to paintball web sites later, when I get more time and if you haven’t found ‘em by then, I’ll post a link to one. As for your reverse coaxial, no comment. Back to the RPG-7 for a second, if I were you I’d go with that, it’s never been done, as far as I know at lest, and I think it would look cooler if done right.

You could just tear off some of the foam on the sides of the football, thats what I did to get it to fit in a 1.5'' barrel. And then duct tape the areas where you took the foam off.

EDIT: This is what you want.

Thanks Torch! :) Any idea where I can find those these days?

I went out and bought fun stuff like schraders, paint and telfon tape.

I'm still working out a design I want to go with... I think it's going to involve the smallest cheapest solenoid valve I can find.

I'll save the sprinker valves for my next project, a TOW Launcher!

Look on ebay for a lot of them. Nerf's are like $6 a peice- too much. You can look at those oriental trade companies that sell toys and stuff like that in bulk for a lot less.

Friend, do you live near any China stores, like Wally-World, big/odd-lots, etc.?
If so take a look there, I was in at the big-lots the other day and found some o’ them China brand NERF footballs for a buck.

No luck...

In fact I read they aren't even produced anymore.

Yeah, sorry it took so long to respond, been busy as of late.
Anyway, NERF doesn’t make the “pocket foot ball” thingy. BUT there is a Chinese company that makes ’em, I think; I saw one not more than a month ago at the big lots…what state do you live in? The farther south you live the older the stuff is at the big lots, don’t know why just that’s the way it seems…also look for the stores that look like they haven’t seen business since the 80s, but are, by some miracle, still in business, just be careful were you shop, some of the other customers may want something that the store doesn’t sell, like your money…

I've been thinking about this some more and have a new idea that might work.

Image

Can I get some feedback? Does this seem possible? Will you standard pop off valve dump air fast enough to launch a foam football?

Pop off valve… I don’t think it’ll work to well, most of the pop off valves have small openings, like ¼” or some thin’. I think you’d need somthin’ bigger, maybe you could use one o’ them QEVs, you won’t get much power but it’ll be small… why not make an RPG 7, or an AT-4, or how about the good ol’ Bazooka, or a Javelin, or Panzershrike, what about the M79 grenade launcher???? Why does it have to be the M72 LAW????? There’s at least a dozen other anti-armor weapons, what’s so special about the M72? Why not make something hardly anybody’s ever heard of, like the Boys Rifle? Or why not teach your dog to do this. Why does it have to be an M72 when there’s a plethora of other anti-armor weapons?

Ok then… all I was saying is that there’s a bunch of other anti-armor weapons to model your air cannon after, take the Javelin for example it’s rather large and has a big computer box on it were all the valve workings could be hidden. And the Boys rifle could easily be converted to pneumatic. As could the M79 grenade launcher.
The M72 is a VERY compact anti-armor weapon, in other words, hard to convert to pneumatic because there’s not a lot of room to work with, plus it telescopes. For simplicity’s sake go with something else, do a Google search on “anti-tank weapons”
Oh as a side note I was in at China-mart earlier and saw a China-NERF football thing that had this spirally sleeve thing that slid off the inner football looked to be approximately 2inches.

Hmmm,

The M79 would be difficault to make work because it dosnt have any room for a chamber big enough to fire nerf projectiles (ive been trying to build one for a while).

The mini nerf footballs weigh 26 and have a diameter of 1.98 in

I use a value of 1 psi for friction for a 2 inch pipe.

You could make the LAW if the sliding part is the barrell and the chamber is in the non colapsing part and connected to the valve via a fleable cable.

Tricky but possable. You would get about 200 -240fps with a psi of 120 in your chamber if it is 50ci (from 12gram co2). Thats out of a 10-14 inch barrell.
