AMG V 3.0

Unread postAuthor: spudthug » Sat May 05, 2007 11:05 am

Hey guys i was jsut wondering if i should build this...i need your opinion on many things.

1. will it be exceptionally more powerful with a piston than the recent QEV?

2. will it look cooler?

3. is it worth the build?

this is the old version

Nah.

Whatever anyone else might say I'm telling you that QEV's are the best thing you can use on a small bore cannon. Up to the point they get too expensive.

No homemade piston can possibly open faster than a commerical QEV piston - have you seen how small and light they are? They also require zero faffing about and screaming that it doesn't seal/pilot/open the way it should.

For a piston valve in QEV size territory you should only be doing it for looks and cost.

If you're in the UK then it can only be for the cost because we have our nice piston ones which look much better than all those other ones ^_^

I have four 1.5" QEV's which I thought were very powerful. If I still had my 1.5" porting piston valve (RIP, lol  ), I would test them both to see which is really more powerful.

I think it would be very close. QEV's use diaphragms, which often do not allow full flow. Furthermore, they have more internal turns than the standard 1.5" porting piston valve. However, they certainly do have a lighter piston.

Would be a good experiment for sure... maybe ask Gort to do it, he has both a 1.5" piston valve and a 1.5" QEV at this time.

Rmitch, QEV's can have either pistons OR diaphragms.

Mine has a piston in it which weighs a couple of grams and flies back to allow full flow. The wider ones which look a bit squashed have diaphragms inside them.

See both types here: http://www.airlines-pneumatics.co.uk/webcat/vit.asp?SubCat=85

its a goyen diaphram qev.. i heard they arent that great. but anyway my qev seems like it sucks..badly... my modifeid sprinkler gun (my first one) worked a hell of alot better than this.. i am very disapointed with this valve.. although it may be that i have to small of a chamber on it.. or a bad port.. or something but it sucks
