If you are going for higher pressures go with a nice 15-20mm piston valve, but it really depends on what size barrel you want.

Golf ball rifle, I think a golf ball barrel might ruin the althentic look of the gun.

I tried them, it was crap for me but I used a bike pump, if you use grease and an air compressor then it may work. (The toilet things that is...) I am getting a mouse pad soon and I'm going to try that. Why was it crap, crap design? Mouse pads are very porous, so I wouldn't advise that you use them.
