[quote="DYICanada has some ridiculous laws as well, but the enforcement is so poor, and the punishment so insignificant, that very few people in the rural areas have to worry about the legality of what they're doing. Of course, due to this lack of enforcement, we have lazy and stupid criminals, whic...

I am glad you got it all figured out- and foremost, I am glad you are okay and no bodily harm came of this.

For spudguns, hybrid. Why? Because they are exceedingly simple, rather noisy, easily capable of muzzle velocities up to Mach 3 or so, and would be far more practical for things such as target shooting or hunting if optimised in terms of ergonomics than today's high powered airguns. And airgun is ei...

Thanks for the reply. My DDT comparison was not necessarily in a spud gun, but an undetermined length of pipe, just for academic purposes. I will be able to do some accurate testing this summer on muzzle velocities. I plan on using golfballs (weighed out,) and first changing the variable of spark ga...

An un-modded sprinkler valve has a solenoid that needs to be accuated in order for the diaphram to open up and allow your propellant to travel from your chamber to your barrell. To get the solenoid to activate, you supply it with some power... like X number of AA batteries hooked up to it via a push...

I love your work, Jimmy. I am trying hard to believe that multiple, evenly spaced spark gaps will create the most muzzle velocity, but even after reading all that you have done here and on your site, I cannot bring myself to fully accept that. If a pipe full of propane is ignited on one end the flam...

bump

I don't usually kick up old threads- but this is beautiful! One question, KJ: did your improvised peak gauge work well?

One word to describe this cannon: Inspiring.

The title "kills" me, Necrosis. I can't add too much more to what has been suggested, as they seem to be right on. To answer the question of your title: Probably not. You may die a bloody death, but you would most likely be knocked unconsious to realize how horrible the death is. So, from your persp...

Understood, but still why send money before anything is even decided yet? It's like paying for a used car you haven't even seen yet. Theres a problem with that? It just makes buying all the more interesting. Also while the entry fee is a good idea to stop shenanigans some of us can't really pay or ...

Great post. I think its terrific anytime someone makes their own piston guns. Everything looks very clean... well, except the tape (I know, you won't change it.) It amazes me how many spudders use manual pumps. Oh well; it builds character, as well as a bit of muscle and heightens your appreciation ...

PCGuy, yeah- but I have it now and I want the contest, if there is one, to have as much publicity and support as possible. Perhaps this can drive in new members as well. The last contest had a post quota of sorts. Do we want to do the same thing again? Or a membership date deadline? This way, it can...

Thanks, jrrdw. We don't have to keep those exact categories, or even award the same amount of points to each- it is very flexible at this stage. We can either set up exact scoring criteria for each point category or just leave it up the mods to award points, based on their own interpretation, as lon...

Use teflon tape to seal the joint.
I believe threaded connections are rated at 50% that of the same size pipe. ... At least that is what I read on a spec sheet for metal fittings once.
