Re: Golf ball distance records?
North of 1500 fps is the fastest I've gotten a golf ball up to - I imagine it would travel about as far as it could with a mean hook or slice at that point. I've never tested it back east but now that I'm a home owner I hope to get back into this sport and launch some golf balls in the deserts of we...

Re: large burst disk hybrid build(Update September 2017)
... My second is the chamber seemed quite warm, maybe even more so than after the first shot. Even though heating would of occurred from compression of the added air I'd think that would have been counteracted by the venting of the chamber after the failed attempt to fire. So possibly had incomplet...

Re: Piston Hybrid Questions, O Ring/Design
I'd take a look at a good ol silicone o-ring for starters (Silicone Rubber -> High-Temperature Silicone Rubber O-Rings) https://www.mcmaster.com/#o-rings/=190271j Something in the 1/8" width like this guy would be good - you'll obviously need to size based on your application though https://www.mcma...

Re: Is Sch10 Stainless Steel DDT safe?
Yeah, I want the gun to be as mobile as possible, cam couplings and all. I just realized I would always need to have an air compressor nearby, is it possible to hook up a bike pump to the meter and pump through there? I want all the recharging/loading systems on the gun. I'm not going to drag an ai...

Re: Is Sch10 Stainless Steel DDT safe?
Interestingly enough - that gun initially started out as 'something I want to hold' - it quickly turned into not that haha.
Glad you enjoy the videos - Hopefully I can get back into making them in the future (aka shooting REAL spud guns, and not just boring cartridge fed AR's and AK's lol).

Re: Is Sch10 Stainless Steel DDT safe?
Here is a link to my Sch. 10, 304 SS chamber and barrrel hybrid that I made a few years back: http://www.spudfiles.com/hybrid-cannon-database/topic23523.html I have had it fail to rupture the burst disc with a 10x mixture once - it was kind of interesting - a "ping" sound and nothing. Kind of scary ...

Re: Noise cannon for RC planes
I was going to mention the ESP8266 - wasn't sure on your level of comfort with dealing with them as they can require FTDI programming setups and whatnot - which can be a pain if your not used to the pinout. Look at the ESP32 as well - much more powerful then the 8266, has bluetooth and better wifi s...

Amazing! I love logging on here to see new posts on this project haha - made me log in to leave this comment! Regarding frequency - any way you could possibly have two guns using one propane cylinder to save on weight - then fire them out of sync slightly using a micro controller to control the firi...

Re: Wacky Breechloading Launcher
Interesting concept - Double spool using one to control chamber flow - It would probably work as you would expect, provided you calculate your surface areas to achieve the balanced/unbalanced effect you desire. It is pretty complicated for sure though - take a look at http://www.zdspb.com/tech/misc/...

Good point @mrfoo Here's a cutaway view of a modern spear gun: http://www.nauticexpo.com/prod/imersion/product-22356-405649.html And another view of the stages of a typical spear gun from rest to arrow launched: http://aquatech1.narod.ru/pneumatic.gif I think the arrow sealing against the barrel wit...

Re: Arrow gun: Barrel length vs fps question.
I would think actually that the shaft just creates a larger 'dead space' area - as the entire barrel is empty in the beginning - and the volume only increases to approximately 2x that dead space up to the point of arrow leaving the barrel. This would create a softer acceleration curve - which may be...

Re: Is spudding dead?
This is a relevant point, for many people this hobby is indeed a way to shoot things when you're too young to own a "proper" gun, or otherwise prevented from doing so legally. I'm definitely in both realms. It is certainly nice to be able to buy off the shelf stuff and put holes in stuff up to 1/2"...

What's a reference size you want it to be, and a reference weight? Good place to start!
