Is this safe?

Unread postAuthor: darkcard » Mon Jan 02, 2006 3:41 am

I recently made my attempt at a mini, which would be my first ever spud gun. Well it shoots que tips, but you know what i mean.

Well i got a V8 bottle, and screwed a big enough hole in the side of it to fit my pen. Then i made two more holes and i put in some of those wall hanging hooks in, which work pretty well. Then i dissasembled one of those long-necked lighters and took the ingniter out of it., and used the wires and put them on the hooks.

Now, i have fired it about three times before talking to my friend about it, and he said that the chamber to barel ratio is really offbalance, and is surprised it didnt explode already.

Look at the picture and tell me if its dangrous, and if it is, any way i can elimnate the danger other than makeing a bigger barel

Im new here, and this is my first gun, so bear with me =).

What you see in the middle is the barel.

You can't really get any info of the picture but. What kind of combustable do you use) (Right Guard, AXE, Butane...). I have loads of experiance with mini-s and not so "mini" minies I have never seen that your air mixture has to be anything else than just getting your cannon to fire. But I guess that V8 bottle is what 0.5L or 1L so he could be right but still I've never seen anything more dangerous besides your cap blowing off whaich will be the first thing to happen if "something" blows up. Not sure about this so get a couple of opinions.

YOU CAN NEVER BE TOO SAFE

I don't know about V8 bottles in particular, but varius people have used carbonated beverage bottles in pneumatics - at pressures more than twice what you'll get from a combustion (no matter what you do - even plugging the barrel can't get you more than 50 PSI. However, because V8 in not a carbonated beverage, there is no requirment to make the bottle capable of holding pressure... I'd switch to a bottle that is.

That being said, the lids on these things are roughly 1" in diameter, so assuming 50 PSI combustion pressure, you have some 37 lbs pulling it off. I doubt that's going to suffice. (and it's been shown that they can hold the bottle at 100 PSI or so, as shown in a few different pop-bottle pneumatics)
