Oh you mean the one where you kept breaking the spring ? Quite a lot of dead-space, but it'd work just fine, as long as the spring....

Well they're all pretty much the same idea really, just variations on a blow-forward design, so a lot comes down to ease of building I guess.

Of course that's the key bit and why I posted here, having an idea is one thing, building it is another entirely, so ways to productionise the ideas are what I was after.

ok, em...i'm still here _Fnord lol. :D reading the topics and so on, but i kinda lost interest in spudguns three weeks ago, builing the high voltage ignition for my hybrid when i got shocked and nearly killed myself.
But er...a automatic hybrid needs to be really really strong, and don't get jerky and everything, even cooled metal heats a lot. Do not use gal. steel as zinc-oxide vapors are toxic (you get dizzy....)
To make a small cailber hybrid like you intend to do, id recommend a small chamber at high mix. what you need isn't volume, it's pressure and heat.

Oh and for the little story, i didn't know 6000 volts at 8 joules would hurt that much. I've had 2nd degree burns at the tips of my fingers...i didn't loose consciousness though, but i heard my heart stop for a couple of seconds and then pop back like a horse...i'll stay out of the way of these troubles for now.

There's nothing like a near-death experiences to give you a new lease of life hey?

Agani this isn't meant to be fully auto, merely semi-auto, or self-lading if you wish. Heating shouldn't be such a big problem then, although to be honest I think a well constructed thing will work fine, there's plenty of people build small RC engines out of billet steel, and they're doing 10,000 rpm, which is a hell of a lot more explosions than a fully auto hybrid would ever get.
