Poured Epoxy for complicated gas ports.

Unread postAuthor: SPG » Thu Jan 03, 2008 11:47 am

So finally I've decided to build a concept, this one in fact

Image

Only thing is as you can see there's a set of fairly complicated ports to create measured in millimetres. So I wondered about building it the following way.

The basic materials will be cheap non-pressure related plastic tubing all apart from the barrel in fact. Obviously this'd just blow up in my face, so my thought is to cut and glue the tubing how I want it, then put this inside a larger tube, and then fill this with JSR's miracle epoxy encasing the whole lot. Once it's set I've got a nice solid pressure resistant gun with the gas routed through the plastic tubes.

Anyone see any downsides?

I believe Epoxy sticks very poorly(if at all) to the type of plastic tubing you are thinking of. You are probably better off using brass, copper or steel brakeline etc. and pvc and fitting it together with Epoxy and then pouring a block around the finished assembly.

Some does some doesn't, but I'm not certain it matters really, I'm not going to use epoxy to glue each bit together, I'll use plastic adhesive, the epoxy just moulds itself round the outside.

I'd love to use PVC but they don't make it with IDs of 4-5mm.

This is basically the construction method I use - make the system you require then rely on an epoxy sarcophagus for strength :)

Oh i bet JSR has many more epoxy secrets waiting to be revealed. :D BTW...is this going to be more powerful than the regular blow forward bolt because it seems too complicated.(Or is this just the noob side of me being expressed :( ?)

Why did you put the magazine in the valve? Why not just do it like the gun JSR just made. That would make it much less complicated to build .

Fair enough, but that's for the benefit of my legal health, I was referring to construction techniques :P

hmm legal health... that would suggest you are in a strict country (gun wise) although you do have air rifles :?

Yes, and they're all licensed, but there's no legal framework to register spudguns so they're a bit of a grey area and I prefer to err on the side of caution.

isn't not mentioning your country being a bit over cautious though? if you posted exact directions to your house, you phone number, e-mail, workplace etc. then that woud be stupid but wheres the harm in saying whoch country you live in?
